Apollocon, 2007…
Dene Foye was sitting in a bardic circle and singing a song about Robert Heinlein to the tune of American Pie…the lady sitting next to him, looking over his shoulder, sang the song along with him. Several more times that evening she sang along with him when he played, their voices blending nicely.
At the end of the evening they were talking and Dene asked Sundara (the lady) if she would be interested in singing with him as a performing duo. She agreed….and Ghost of a Rose was born.
Their debut performance was at Fencon IV three months later. They have performed at SCA events, coffeehouses, Science Fiction conventions, CMA Samhain and Beltain Festivals and Celtic Festivals.
The music Ghost of a Rose plays is eclectic…within the same performance you can hear Celtic music, SCA/Renaissance music, Pagan music, Filk music, or original pieces.
Sundara is from the Chicago Area originally, where she participated in filk circles at conventions and SCA events.
Dene has been playing guitar and singing folk music since 1967, playing with several different groups over the years, performing everything from folk music to German Oktoberfest songs. Along the way he received a Bachelors in Music Education and taught music for a year
