If you want to dance salsa on a Tuesday night in San Francisco, AY KARAMBA is the night for you at the Glas Kat.
Dance Lessons: Beginner Salsa lesson is 7:45 to 8:30 with Alison Hurwitz (Metronome Ballroom/Harmony Project Dance Company). Alison is an amazing dancer and an excellent teacher of beginners. Her humor and clear instruction will have you doing the basic in no time.
Intermediate Salsa lesson is 8:30 to 9:30 with Ricardo Tellez (RicaSalsa Dance Company). Ricardo is a salsa dancer/instructor with thousands of moves.
Once a month (3rd Tuesday), Rodney Aquino (Rodchata.com/Salsagang.com) hosts a Bachata Social in the upstairs lounge with DJ El Guapo. Bachata is a Dominican dance that became popular in the Bay Area about 4 years ago - a romantic and sensual dance.
Our Salsa DJs: DJ Chino, Don BoriQua and El De La Clave. All are serviceable to good salsa DJs, playing a mix of salsa, cha cha cha, merengue and bachata.
Cover: $12. If you sign up on the Glas Kat guest list (go to the website, http://www.glaskat.com and click on the VIP guest list for Tuesday) you get in for $5. The list closes at 5 PM, and you have to be in the club by 10 PM.

Louie Romero & Mazacote Percussion legend Louie Romero has appeared on five gold records and two platinum records. Born in Brooklyn, he began playing percussion at the age of seven, inspired by his father Juan. Louie began appearing on the New York salsa scene in the 1960s. In 1967, famous trombonist and bandleader Willie Colón asked Louie to join his band after seeing him perform at New York's Broadway Casino.
During those 10 years, Louie played with the best musicians from salsa's famed Fania record label, including Hector Lavoe and Ruben Blades. When Colón's band broke up in 1977, Louie continued to record with other Fania groups, eventually recording over 20 albums for the label. He then expanded into folkloric music and latin jazz, playing with greats like Paquito D'Rivera.
Louie moved to California in 1984, seeking a change of pace. In 1994, he formed Mazacote, which quickly gained a reputation as one of San Francisco's finest salsa bands. Now, Louie is proud to release the album fans have been requesting for years: a lively CD that showcases Mazacote's energy, stellar musicianship, and mastery of the style.

Glas Kat...definitely one of the best placess to go dancing. I recommend it to all of my friends who visit the Bay Area. It used to be and still is my favorite place even though I don't live in the Bay Area anymore.
