THE GOT TO GET GOT (TGTGG) are the Marion Barry’s of incisor rock! They formed in Vancouver, BC in the winter of 2006 when Mark Mullane (North of America) temporarily moved under a rain cloud to begin working on new material with his former band mate, Mark Colavecchia (North of America). As the days passed and Mullane’s skinny ass print formed a larger groove in Colavecchia’s lawn chair cushions, songs began to materialize. Enlisting Chris Vanderlaan to hit the drums, the newly formed band rented a dank practice space that had “monkey” in the name and started developing new ideas that blew the dust off old progressions. Putting their former pedigree aside, they took a crooked eye approach to writing pop music, thanks largely in part to a guitar tuning passed down to Mullane from Damon Tutunjian (Swirlies).
With only a handful of practices under their belt, Mullane left the land of all-u-can-eat sushi and moved back to Toronto where the band met up again and recorded a slew of demos with Leon Taheny (Germans, Final Fantasy, Sebastian Grainger and the Mountains). As a side note, Leon is one of the greatest people in the music industry today. Go see his bands and buy him a donair.
After yet another move, Mullane landed back in his hometown of Halifax and the demos found their way into the hands of NOYES Records who quickly released TGTGG’s first EP called “Canadian Arts Collective Blues/Huge Zig Zag” (NOYES Records). Critics raved, it climbed the college charts and TGTGG started to book shows. A new band that originally went by the name of TGTGG Strictly East Coast (a homage to Damon for the guitar tuning) played a show in Halifax. It went well. They got asked to play another and another and another until TGTGG became a real band and made appearances at Pop Montreal, Sappyfest, and the Halifax Pop Explosion. Now TGTGG is comprised of seasoned vets, highly touted rookies, and many helpers, clappers, and yelpers.
TGTGG are currently recording their first full-length album (NOYES Records 2009) but have just completed a fucking amazing new 7” (OUT OF TOUCH Records) called “Rattle Off” which will be released to coincide with TGTGG’s first tour on July 31, 2008. You gotta get got.

You guys were fantastic last night, despite the sinister machinations of fate. I think the Music Room has indie-rock-hating poltergeists. Someone's gonna have to exorcise them, 'cause it just sounds too great in there.
