Originally formed under the name of MANDATORY back in 90, a band called EMERALD was given birth after Johnny (ex DECAMERON, ODERU) and Anders (ex NECROFEAST) gathered forces and skipped the gore themes formerly approached in their prior lyrics to a more thoughtful mystical concept. Eventually, Robert (ex ODERU) added the epic feeling with his keyboards in 94. Then, the name of GRIEF OF EMERALD became more fitting to the bands improved style. Drummer Dennis filled in to smash the skins and this line-up completed a demo, entitled The Beginning which resulted on CD on the Scottish label DEVIATION/SPELLCAST. In September 96 the band went on recording their debut full-length album Signs of a stormy past which, due to some delays, never saw the light of the day. Then followed the departure of Dennis who quickly got replaced by a new ultra-tight beat master: Fredrik. GRIEF OF EMERALD signed a multi-album deal with LISTENABLE. They re-recorded the album with this new line-up, and increased the power by adding some new intricate songs. By their boasting harmonies with haunting keyboards, tight double-bass drumming backed by a thick guitar sound and haunting vocals, plus superb packaging, GRIEF OF EMERALD strayed away from the usual light-sounding Scandinavian black/death metal and with this original sound recorded: Nightspawn (1998) Malformed seed (2000) Christian Termination (2002) Examples of Shows GOE have done and bands they have played with are: Wave Gothic treffen" in Germany (Leipzig) and the "Party San Open Air Festival" (also Germany) Gigs with IMMORTAL, MARDUK, NECROPHOBIC, DEFLESHED, Christ Crushing Tour with SKYFORGER, SEAR BLISS, BESTIAL MOCKERY, OBTEST. After the last tour (Christ Crushing Tour) Grief of Emerald was confronted with line up problems ones again when the bass player and the guitarist left the band. The band fell into a slumber as they tried to find competent musicians to work with, some local shows where done to try out new members but not until 2008 the line up was complete again and the plans of a new record was spawned. A demo called "Holocaust" was made as well as some live shows around Sweden to attract record companies and after careful consideration a deal was made with NON SERVIAN RECORDS(NSR). A full length album is now recorded containing remakes of three old songs as well as four new tracks. The album will be called"The devil's deep" and is planed for release in the summer of 2011 German Ursprünglich unter dem Namen MANDATORY in den 90ern gegründet, erblickte die Band EMERALD das Licht der Welt, als Jonny (ex DECAMERON, ODERU ) und Anders (ex NECROFEAST ) beschlossen ein mehr durchdachtes und mystiches Konzept zu verfolgen. Ab 94 wurde dies durch Robert (ex ODERU ) am Keyboard komplettiert der dem Sound seitdem etwas episches verleiht. Zu dieser Zeit änderte man den Namen in GRIEF OF EMERALD , da dieser mehr dem Stil und den Ansprüchen der Band entsprach. Drummer Dennis kam an den Fellen hinzu und dieses Lineup spielte die erste Demo mit dem Titel "The Beginning" ein. Veröffentlicht wurde beim schottischen Label DEVIATION/SPELLCAST. September 96 wurde mit den Aufnahmen des ersten kompletten Longplayers begonnen. Leider erblickte das "Signs of a stormy past" betitelte Werk aufgrund von diversen Verzögerungen nie das Licht der Welt. Dennis verlies daraufhin die Band und wurde durch Fredrik ersetzt. GRIEF OF EMERALD unterzeichneten einen multi Album Deal bei LISTENABLE. Das auf Eis gelegte Album wurde neu eingespielt und erhielt zusätzliche einige komplexere Songs. Durch ihre herausragenden Harmonien und eingängigen Keyboards gepaart mit treibendem double Bass und einer brachialen Gitarrenwand konnte Grief Of Emerald sich von den meist simpler klingenden typischen skandinavischen black/death Metal Sound abheben. Indiesem Stil entstanden folgende Aufnahmen: Nightspawn (1998) Malformed seed (2000) und Christian Termination (2002) Live sind neben vielen anderen die Auftritte auf dem Wave Gothic treffen" in Leipzig ( Deutschland), dem "Party San Open Air Festival" (ebenfalls Deutschland) und Gigs mit IMMORTAL, MARDUK, NECROPHOBIC, DEFLESHED, Christ Crushing Tour mit SKYFORGER, SEAR BLISS, BESTIAL MOCKERY, OBTEST hervorzuheben. Nach der letzten Tour wurde Grief Of Emerald mit massiven Lineup Probleme konfrontiert als der Gitarrist und auch der Bassist die Band verliessen. Es folgte eine längere Durststrecke. Einige Konzerte wurden gegeben in der Hoffnung kompetente Musiker auf sich aufmerksam zu machen und das Lineup wieder zu komplettieren. 2008 war es dann soweit, beide Instrumente wurden hochkarätig besetzt und erste Pläne für eine neue Scheibe geschmiedet. Ein Demo mit dem Titel Holocaust wurde eingespielt und einige Promoshows in Schweden absolviert. Nach längerem Abwägen wurde ein Deal mit NON SERVIAN RECORDS (NSR) geschlossen. Zur Zeit wird am neuen Longplayer "The devil's deep" gearbeitet, der neben drei älteren Songs vier neue Tracks enthalten wird. Es ist geplant das Album im Sommer 2011 zu veröffentlichen. -

Многие, кто еще не пропил память окончательно, помнят этот коллектив с весьма подозрительным названием – смахивает на название готического коллектива /ребята отжигали еще с 90 года/. Ну это у кого мания преследования. Сегодня - у меня. /да и завтра/. Потому что, например, стиль блэк дэт с клавишами - очень подозрителен с многих ракурсов. Как его на виселице не верти. Так что, надеюсь, вы разделяете мою озабоченность. Весьма сложную логарифмическую задачу решает эта банда - сыграть свою музыку, используя клавиши, да еще чтобы она осталась блэк дэтом. Не буду томить – считаю, что задача выполнена на 89 процентов. Зело злобная канва прошита истерическими и напряженными клавишами – кстати тут еще даже хоры есть. Но все сложилось положительно - в мизантропическом ключе, которым по большим праздникам бьют по голове. Берегите череп.
