"With hardly any industry push behind it, Brokelore is destined to be a lost classic, a perfectly constructed album."
--SANTA CRUZ METRO, "The Year's Best Hip-Hop Albums"
"Albums like Brokelore define the new paradigm of Bay Area hip-hop. Grip Grand's excellent second record masters retro and progressive, gangsta and conscious, funky and jazzy, all while tiptoeing the line between indie ethics and mainstream appeal."
--EAST BAY EXPRESS, "Best Music of 2008--Editor's Picks"
"Just when lyrical MCing seemed a thing of the past, here comes Grip Grand. Brokelore revives the era when rappers strove to perfect their craft and sound unique, except they’ve added mega-slappin’ new-school beats. GG’s drawled cadence might remind some of a less-conceited Kanye, but his skills shine just as brightly as Mr. West’s Jesus piece."

"If you're in need of some real hip-hop, check out the new joint from Grip Grand, Brokelore."
--IGN.COM
"...Grip Grand balances spitting razor-sharp lyrics with actually PRODUCING most of the album, another act that he manages admirably. I had to double-check that Just Blaze didn't produce 'Win the War' - it is an unbelievably hot hornfest; 'Hip-Hop Classic' has already cemented itself on my Year End Review as one of my favorite songs; 'Tomorrow' is reminiscent of OutKast's best work....If you love hip hop, you'll love this album. Go buy. Now.
TOTAL Vibes 9 of 10 "

"Brokelore is a diverse collection of tunes anchored by Grand’s humble egotism and appreciation for Hip-Hop in its multiplicity of forms."

"Best Rapper of 2007"

Grip Grand. That's me. Maybe you saw me in URB's Next 100 a while back (2005)...well, not "saw" me, because my picture didn't make the cut. But I'm in there. Check the small print. I make rap music. Both parts...the rap, and the music. I like all kinds, I make all kinds.
To that end, I've put out a few projects over the years. A limited-edition self-pressed 12" (Pro-Gress/Santa Ana Winds) was followed by a CD (Welcome to Broakland) on Bomb Hip Hop Records, home of the illustrious Return of the DJ series. The overnight, worldwide success that followed these early releases (recorded almost entirely on a four-track cassette machine) has made me a multibillionaire many times over. Nonetheless, when I was approached by highly respected producer DJ Design (of Foreign Legion fame) to do a follow-up on Look Records, I could hardly refuse. That collaboration led to the release of another 12" (Poppin' Pockets/Love-Drama), co-produced by Design and myself and featuring hip-hop legend A.G. of DITC. Needless to say, the song went quadruple-diamond, and literally every person on the planet owns a copy...your mom, starving babies in the desert, the Pope. Everybody.
Naturally, we went right to work on a full-length album--Brokelore, featuring appearances and/or production from Percee P, Richie Cunning, and more. If you haven't heard it yet, it's by far the best album mentioned in this sentence. But it's so much more than that. You should really check it out. To quote soul stylist Major Harris from his monster hit Love Won't Let Me Wait, "You owe it to yourself." The shit is dope. And I am a very harsh critic.
So what's next for Grip Grand, aka myself? I'll tell you what's next...a bunch of hit records that are going to change the way you perceive life as we know it. Or just some really good music. One of those two, or a combination thereof. But either way, you oughta get on board now. Especially if you are interested in paying me to make music for you. Because I am sitting on a goldmine right about now, like a crazy, cackling old prospector. And I can draw you a map to the buried treasure. A magical, musical map...I have totally lost track of this metaphor. But you get the picture. My music plus your ears equals the best thing ever. Come and get it. The end.
Hey whats good??? Thx for the add... I really appreciate, Hope u liked what u heard... Stop by any time, and stay in touch... Ps: Happy New Year aal best in 2009 to u and you family!!! Ukase(Beatmaker)
OKP just reviewed the Bomb Hip Hop Comp., and they singled you out! Where was this reviewer when Brokeland was sent in???
Grip Grand also does the compilation a huge favor with his hard hitting, feel good song, “I Chose Rap.” His flow is consistent and thoroughly developed, as he pontificates on his love for hip-hop music, cemented by a catchy hook made up of old school sound bytes, over a classic soul sample.
HEY!!! Did you hear Kevvy Kev's turning 30? This Friday, at Club Six? And EPMD is performing? Plus that Richie Cunning cat, plus a few surprise guests we're not allowed to talk about? Well, if you hadn't disabled HTML, you'd have a dope flyer, proudly displaying all that info. F@#ker!!!
