Reviews:
"It's lovely when singer-songwriters can actually sing and write songs...Gus does both with effortless ease, combining aching lyrics with tender guitars and cotton wool percussion. There's alt-country overtones, folkish twists and bluesy roots, all pinned together by intelligent structures, subtle instrumentation, and the refreshing sense that he knows how you feel. His knack for an unusual metaphor, spine-tingling harmony or heart-breaking lyric won't let you go." Nottingham Post
"Intelligent songwriting of the highest order. New folk has never sounded so good." Folking.com
"The acoustic intimacy was definitely present in the set of Gus MacGregor, whose singing was accompanied by his delicate guitar and tasteful embellishment from an acoustic bass. Gus creates a warm world of laid-back gentle freedom, very much in the vein of the folky origins of vintage West Coast singer-songwriters, notably James Taylor and Jackson Browne. The ambience goes beyond the soothing: it is optimistic and courageous in its licensing of thoughtful sensitivity. And Gus Macgregor really is good, as good a songwriter - and singer - as his influences indeed. I've subsequently listened to his recordings and they're very strong, drawing me into his appealing world of sensitive relationships astutely observed: he qualifies as a hero too" Movingtone.com
The song See Yourself from the album 'Lifeline' is currently being played regularly on all the major Swiss radio stations. It's a duet which was co-written with Jael, singer of Swiss band Lunik. Download it for free from www.orangemusic.ch

Gus MacGregor was born and grew up in the north west of England. He was exposed at an early age to Irish, Scottish and English folk music, as well as the american folk artists of the 60's and 70's. He went on to explore the music of the early delta blues artists, and the country and blue grass traditions, mainly through the recordings made by Alan Lomax. Grabbed by the earthiness of traditional music, his own music reflects the lyrical story-telling and melodic interest of those roots artists. "That old music has so much heart, it kills me. I would never try to copy their playing or singing, I don't think anyone could manage that without living through what they did. But I look to that music for advice all the time." After 10 years in London, Gus moved to Bern, Switzerland last year.
Thanks so much for playing at the Hive last night Gus. Your set was amazing was always. We love your music! Please come back again in 2010 :-) Big love from everyone at the Hive x
Feel quite foolish and masochistic, depriving myself of myspace time. The sound of your voice was a wonderful 'welcome home'. Struggling with a groove for a new tune...'Lifeline' threw me one! I'll have to come back and view some video.

Four more little sonic gems for your August pleasure are now available on the site. Blitzen Trapper, Boulder Acoustic Society, Jay Brannan and The Wiyos. Yet another fine quartet even though we say so ourselves as picked them out.
Hello Gus, Mick and I listened to your Loman album again yesterday, it was fresh as ever. Mick even let me repeat all the tracks I love several times (listened pretty much the whole way from Norwich to London). I just wanted to say you should be proud of yourself for writing those songs. Thank you for the music (where did I hear that before). Nicky

I know that many artists from North America don't have their music videos uploaded to German video websites. The most popular websites are MyVideo.de and ClipFish.de. That means your European audience does not have the chance to find them.
I understand that most of you don't speak German and are not able to upload videos because of the language barrier. If you would like me to upload your videos to the German video websites, please let me know.
Thanks
