About me:
MS here. On behalf of CK and the rest of the Harper Perennial team, I graciously welcome you to our MySpace page. We are currently at work turning this site into a viable and entertaining literary destination. You may have been sufficiently impressed with our blog, the Olive Reader, but, as is our wont, we aim to do more. Since this is a work-in-progress, we welcome your comments and suggestions. The encouragement of your friendship is all we ask.

Harper Perennial is one of the paperback publishing arms of HarperCollins, Inc. Which is a global company - so that means Harper Perennial exists...around the globe. So that's cool. Anyway - we set up this MySpace page because we like authors and we like readers. And we're hoping that in our small way, we can put the two together.

And a reminder, check out our blogs, The Olive Reader and The Cruelest Month. Seriously. Super fun.

Who I'd like to meet:
Whoever makes the coffee, it's delicious. And Wes Anderson. Gene Hackman, too.

And now, a riveting slide-show of some of our books...

And what's this? Check, check, check it out

After you've finished here, you may like to hear this folk-carol on myspace...
Poem 230 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse
(see my blog for details):
CHRISTMAS SUNG SIMPLY

As gospellers have said,
Beneath signalling skies,
On land dusty to tread,
A trough in a stable
Was the strawy first-bed
Of a divine baby -
The forgiving Godhead.

A season for new hope -
There then and here now;
The yuletide of goodwill -
There then and here now.

In respect of this chance,
Beneath bright or dark skies,
Faith's the star that we glance
Attending Christ's churches
And trying to enhance,
With singing and ritual,
Our God-loving stance.

Just to let you know, my short story collection “A History of Sarcasm” is now available to buy.  (It’s great, by the way.)

You can get it from www.doghorn.com

More details on my website, www.frankburton.co.uk

“The writer William Burroughs once called language “a virus from outer space”, and there’s a sense of that in A History of Sarcasm, where Burton holds words up to the sun and lets the light shine through them.”

After you've finished here, you may like to hear this poem sung on myspace...

Poem 162 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse
(please see my blog):
TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001

Where traditions are not so rare;
    Sea, country and works scent the air;
A multitude of monuments,
    Planted tubs and patterned pavements.

The longish pedestrian malls;
    The remnants of defensive walls;
Historic buildings are a gauge
    Of the respect for heritage.

Wheat, rape and pines in the fields;
    Estuaries guarded by shields;
Long sandy beaches and wide scenes;
    Romantic-ruin go-betweens.

Rivers in parts licked by trees,
    Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries,
And crossed by practical delights -
    Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.

Fine churches headed at Durham;
    Football kits ad infinitum;
Kept castles - one for study;
    Masonry behind masonry.

And, with moulding-works out that way,
It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?
