Okay. Here's a little present. A short story/video/podcast I wrote just for my MySpace peeps. It's got a "mature theme" so be sure you're mature. But no "mature pics" you perv.
I Am Not Myself These Days: A Memoir (P.S.).. is your typical boy-dressed-as-girl-meets-crack-head-male-s/m-escort story. It recounts my first year in New York as I worked during the day as an advertising Jr. Art Director, and at night as a 7' 2" drag queen named "AquaDisiac" ("Aqua" for short.) Yeah, I know... it doesn't sound like your type of book. Fine then. Let's throw in my first boyfriend, "Jack", who moved me into his brilliant white penthouse where he routinely humiliated and tortured his myriad of escorting clients. That is, when he wasn't on a crack binge. Still not interested? I could go on about how its a universal love story with a clash of egos and alter egos that only the young and foolish could survive (if only barely). But if you don't wanna hear about it, you don't wanna hear about it. What can I do? You're probably Baptist or something.
Candy Everybody Wants (P.S.).. is a novel set in 1981 about a teenage boy named Jayson (he added the "y" in kindergarten for more "flair") who is determined to achieve the celebrity status he feels is rightfully his. As 15-year-old Jayson leaves his provincial (though anything but ordinary) life in Wisconsin for the “glamour” of New York City, he discovers that celebrity is not always what it's cracked up to be...and always comes at a price. Undeterred by the discovery that his long-lost father is a flaming queen who runs an escort agency for Broadway chorus boys, or by a stint living as a squatter in a Soho loft, Jayson pursues his dream of the spotlight any way he can. But even the thrill of success as the “Picky Prince” on a series of TV commercials and the possibility of sitcom stardom alongside one of show business's sauciest legends can be dampened by the demands of outrageous family and friends. There's a lesson here somewhere, but all Jayson really wants is to catch the next flight to L.A.
Publishers Weekly said it's "impossible to look away."
Armistead Maupin ("Tales of the City") called I Am Not Myself These Days: A Memoir (P.S.).. "absolutely hilarious and heartbreaking and heartfelt." He also kindly described Candy Everybody Wants (P.S.).. as “A balls-out joyride through eighties pop culture that enlightens as much as it exhilarates. As always, Kilmer-Purcell’s astringent wit is nicely tempered by his obvious sympathy for human frailty.”
If I don't drive around the park, I'm pretty sure to make my mark. If I'm in bed each night by ten, I may get back my looks again, If I abstain from fun and such, I'll probably amount to much, But I shall stay the way I am, Because I do not give a damn.
--This is just a short note, from the olde vampyre himself, in thanks for welcoming FAMILY DRAQUAL into your life. --Hugs (if you're confident enough of your manhood, AND/OR if you dare get that close). –Vlad
I have been meaning to pick up your first book for quite a while and for some reason never did, but I finally got it and loved it! I am on my way to get the second one now!
Thanks for the add. ¶ People hear only what they want, so facts alone won't wake them; they'll need inspiration too. An echo of an echo of Buddha or Jesus becomes encrusted in ritual, and loses context and content. Still, we write what we can. Try to hear the questions behind people's questions. ¶ This world's diverse evils have a common root: Bullies, liars, thieves, and murderers — in market, government, and elsewhere — believe we're all separate, motivated only by self-interest, greed, fear. They want us to share that belief, for they use it to justify themselves, to keep us apart, to control politics and the economy, perpetuating war, poverty, and ecocide. Their power comes not so much from cabals as from trojan memes, ubiquitous propaganda, implicit in ads and in their framing of the news. ¶ But they're mistaken about our motives. You and I have found love inside ourselves and our friends. It's in everyone, if only we can wake them, for we're all one flesh and blood. Let's spread that vision, for until we do our other advances will be minor and temporary. The bureacracy of brutality cannot stand if we open the eyes of its workers. ¶ What is human nature? Our task is not just to describe what we see, but to choose what we hope to become. The ideological battle between love and fear shapes the world, and its outcome is not yet written. Watching, voting, shopping are not enough. If you haven't already, join the global conversation, in whatever way feels right for you. Worldwide enlightenment has no precedent, no rules; we must discover and erase them en route. Make love not war is as serious as Orwell and as light as "Chocolat." ¶ For a start, just talk with people; that may not sound like much, but really it's huge. Spread the word. Each of us knows only part of the song, but keep singing, hoping, resisting, questioning. Hand in hand, we may heal this world yet. — Eric
Thanks for the add! If you haven’t already, please check out my novel and hear the band on my page or at www. rogertrott. com. GETTING IN TUNE is about an angst-ridden guitarist who drags his band onto the road in search of the redemptive promise of Pete Townshend’s Universal Chord. It’s a fast, wild ride through the world of '70s pop culture.
