My passions are college football, film, surfing the web, Sid Meier's Civilization, and reading comic books. I also enjoy cooking, eating, chess, and stand-up comedy. I keep abreast of current events, politics, and international affairs, and enjoy traveling. I am trying to learn Amharic, physics, and the logicks. I engage in walks and hiking, and I swim, bike, and play tennis as frequently as I can.
Music
Leonard Cohen is by far my favorite musician. I love the music of "Les Miserables" and "Messiah," and like some select songs by Johnny Cash and Pete Townshend. Bjork is my second favorite musician and one who I respect for her stylings and willingness to explore and expand. I would be remiss if I did not mention the music of my best friend, and former business partner, Hart Deer. Generally speaking, my favorite style of music is soft electronica. I prefer ambient, lyric-driven music with orchestral backing and an emphasis on strings - with clear and dynamic vocals. I like the lyrics to be poetic, melodic, and consciousness-raising.

"Good movies are each good in their own, unique way. Bad movies are all just crap."
House is by far my favorite show on television, followed by Agatha Christie's Poirot and Monk. I also enjoy South Park, The Simpsons, some of the cartoons on Adult Swim, and the various Timmverse incarnations of the Justice League, Batman, and Superman. Other than that, as much college football as I can, shows dealing with astronomy, and the occasional sports event, I really don't watch a lot of tv.
Books
My favorite novels are Animal Farm by George Orwell, Les Miserables by Victor Hugo, Catch-22 by Joseph Heller, Andromeda Strain, Jurassic Park, and Eaters of the Dead by Michael Crichton, And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie, Misery by Stephen King, One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Alexander Solzhenitsyn, and Atlanta Nights by Travis Tea. My favorite graphic novels are "The Long Holloween" by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale, "Batman: Hush" by Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee, "Batman: Year One" and "Daredevil: Born Again" by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli, "Daredevil: Guardian Devil" by Kevin Smith and Joe Quesada, "The Hard Goodbye" by Frank Miller, "Wolverine" by Chris Clairmont and Frank Miller, and "Cerebus" by Dave Sim. The majority of books that I read are non-fiction, though, on a variety of subjects.

Heroes
Noam Chomsky stands out as my greatest personal hero; for the strength and conviction of his ideas, his prodigious output, and his tireless campaigning against the illegitimate use of power. For the same reason I also greatly admire Mohandas Gandhi. The contrubitions made by Norman Borlaug, who as the father of the 'Green Revolution' saved countless lives, is greatly underappreciated. Many regards still for the achievements of Isaac Newton, Galileo Galilei, the architects of quantum theory and general relativity, mathematicians, those who contribute towards the production of vaccines, antibiotics, and other helpful medicines, coast guardsmen, firefighters, and those on the frontlines trying to protect and enhance civil liberties. I respect Howard Zinn, Robert Newman, and others who have been able to penetrate the veils of deceit that blanket our planet. Jim Abbott, a Major League pitcher for a decade despite being born with only one hand, is inspirational. In the realm of fiction are Bruce Wayne, Jean Valjean, and Dean Stiffle, who are characters whose moral ethic and social views I can strongly relate to, if not maintain.

About me:
Forged in the German heartland by a warrior and a simple peasant woman, and after having traveled the world, he settled on the eastern fringes of the martial homeland of his father. Strongly tethered by the Big Ideas, particularly those of socialism, atheism, pacificism, and secular humanism, he has spent three decades cherry picking from a world seething with depravity. He has formed a small fortune, lost a bigger one, and has through it all found great people who would be his friends while being the enemy of none.

Who I'd like to meet: I want to meet someone that I haven't already met dozens of times; anyone who hasn't subsumed their individuality into a prefabricated stereotype, who hasn't purchased something on the strength of a marketing campaign, who has arrived at their conclusions independently, and who has maintained their strength of character, personality, and humanity in the face of an onslaught of cultural conformity, vapidity, and evil. I would be proud to have as a friend anyone who isn't boring, idiotic, contrarian, cruel, or predictable.
