Last March Herod Layne took a flight up to Canada for a small tour. One of these gigs was a performance in the Canadian Music Week Festival in Toronto, together with bands like Venus Flytrap from Netherlands and The Beautiful Taste from Spain. After the festival they took the road eastwards to play in Ottawa, Peterborough and Montreal, and then headed back home.
The trip was documented in a road movie called Je Me Souviens… directed by Sacha Leite Ferreira. The film features the band members talking about the gigs performed in Canada and their experience as being an underground band playing abroad for the first time.
Brazilian post-rock band Herod Layne - Sachalf (guitars), Elson (bass, guitars), Johnny Dux (drums), has released its new single, "Sealand Fire". It's their first piece of work since their debut album In Between Dust Conditions, released early last year by Sinewave net label.
"We managed to have the EP ready so that we could bring it alive in our tour on March, and it was great", says Sachalf. The band has just returned from their first international tour, in Canada, including performances in the Canadian Music Festival 2009, Toronto, Ottawa, Peterborough and Montreal.
In early 2007, Herod Layne took part in the David Gilmour's "Arnold Layne" worldwide online contest, and was ranked among the top ten best versions for Syd Barrett's 1967 song, according to public vote. This accomplishment was spotted in the Brazilian press, and was very important for the band to reach new audiences.
Herod Layne's style converge many influences in the likes of Pink Floyd's space-rock and Mogwai's post-rock, as well as Godspeed You! Black Emperor's anarchic sound, God Is An Astronaut's ambience and Sonic Youth's noise. The band also believes that their homemade videos have a great share of responsibility for its increasing popularity abroad.
Herod Layne has recently been featured in an international art publication called 'Amelia's Magazine', and its music has been aired in some podcasts from the UK and FM KlassikaRadio from Estonia. Last March, the band was interviewed by Mathieu Francoeur in a live broadcast for Radio Montreal FM.
