Flying Bird é um projecto musical de Bruno Lopes. Músico nascido em Lisboa no ano de 1978 mudando pouco tempo depois para a cidade de Barcelos, uma pequena localidade situada no norte do Portugal.
Desde de cedo se começou a interessar pelas artes, principalmente literatura e música tendo como principais mentores os poetas da Beat Generation como por exemplo, Jack Kerouac, Willian Burroughs e Allen Ginsberg; os poetas Rimbaud e Walt Whitman e o escritor Hemingway.
Estas fortes influências literárias acompanharam as musicais ao mesmo nível:
Neil Young, Joni Mitchel, Bob Dylan, Tim Buckley, Tim Hardin, John Martyn e outros artistas na área do folk, Rock e Blues.
Por volta de 1995 forma os “The Pisces”, grupo esse que grava dois trabalhos, “Oceans” editado em 1998 e “Inner Truth” editado em 2001. A banda permite a Bruno Lopes o primeiro contacto com o meio musical português.
Em 2002 lança na internet através da página oficial da banda, doze poemas intitulados “Escritos”, poemas e textos em português que poderão ser lidos nesta webpage.
Em 2003 surge a vontade de fazer música cuja mensagem fosse mais directa e livre, decidindo por regressar às origens. O sentimento de liberdade, de criar música mais espontânea levam a criar então o projecto High Flying Bird.
O nome tem a sua origem numa velha canção folk norte americana, que falava da segregação racial nos E.U.A. na década de 50 e 60.
A música criada pelo projecto é uma mistura simples de voz, poesia, guitarra, harmónica.
Em meados de 2003 lança o ep “Songs of Freedom”, gravado no Oops! Studio num só dia, apenas voz e guitarra. O ep permite realizar actuações pelos mais variados palcos do país conseguindo obter alguma atenção dos meios de comunicação. Tendo sido um acontecimento totalmente inesperado mas que foi encarado com algum nervosismo visto que havia algumas arestas a limar.
Em Fevereiro de 2004 grava o ep “Autumn” no Pink Moon Studio com uma produção também limitada mas com as ideias já definidas do que queria para o projecto a nível de estúdio. Tendo introduzido novos instrumentos como a sitar, sintetizadores e piano nas misturas finais.
Estes dois eps permitem que High Flying Bird realize em 2004 cerca de 22 concertos por todo o país a promover dois eps que não se encontravam à venda nas lojas (visto tratar-se de edições de autor), devido ao desinteresse das editoras discográficas. O interesse do público pelas actuações ao vivo e as 500 cópias esgotadas provocam de certa maneira um saldo positivo.
Em Março de 2005 é editado o trabalho, “Backyard Desert”, desta vez com a produção de Paulo Miranda do AMP Studio. Um trabalho mais elaborado e com alguns elementos novos no universo de High Flying Bird, como a precursão e loops electrónicos.
High Flying Bird lança em Setembro de 2007 o novo album intitulado Escritos.
Lançadado pela editora independente Medusa Records egravado em poucas horas pelo produtor Paulo Miranda no Amp Studio em Viana do Castelo.
Um album de dez temas gravados de uma forma directa e espontânea onde cada hesitação, cada variação na voz, cada mudança de volume e cada frase cantada ressoa a um momento privado.
È um disco onde é assumida de uma forma cuidada e pela primeira vez, canções em português.
Estes temas surgiram sob a forma de poemas, que tomaram a forma de canções.
O português, porque simplesmente houve a vontade de passar a mensagem a um público mais vasto, sentir a força de cada palavra para assim estabelecer uma forma mais eficaz de comunicação.
High Flying Bird encontra-se a apresentar este albúm pelo país na Escritos Tour.

High Flying Bird - Biography (English)
High Flying Bird is a musical project of Bruno Lopes. A born musician in Lisbon in the year of 1978, changing little time later for the city of Barcelos, a small located place in the north of Portugal.
From early, he began to interest for the arts, mainly literature and music, tend as main mentors the Beat Generation poets as for instance, Jack Kerouac, Willian Burroughs and Allen Ginsberg; the poets Rimbaud and Walt Whitman and writer Hemingway.
These strong literary influences accompanied the musical ones at the same level:
Neil Young, Joni Mitchel, Bob Dylan, Tim Buckley, Tim Hardin, John Martyn and other artists in the area of the folk, Rock and Blues.
In 1995 form "The Pisces", a group that records two cds, "Oceans" released in 1998 and "Inner Truth" released in 2001. The band allows Bruno Lopes, the first contact with the musical industry.
In 2002 he publishes in the Internet, through the official web page of the band, twelve poems entitled "Written", poems and texts in Portuguese that can be read in the web page.
In 2003 the will appears to doing music, whose message went in a more direct and free way, deciding to return to the roots. The feeling of freedom, of creating more spontaneous music leads to create the project called High Flying Bird.
The name has his origin in an old North American folk song that spoke about the racial segregation in the U.S.A. in the decade of 50's and 60's.
The music created by the project is a simple mixture of voice, poetry, guitar and harmonic.
In the middle of 2003 it releases the ep "Songs of Freedom", recorded in Oops! Studio in only one day, just the voice and the guitar.
The ep allows accomplishing performances for the most varied stages of the country, getting some attention of the media. Having been an event totally unexpected!!
In February of 2004 he records the ep "Autumn" in Pink Moon Studio with a production also limited but with the ideas already defined of what he wanted for the project at studio level. Having introduced new instruments as the sitar, synthesizers and piano in the final mixtures.
These two eps allow High Flying Bird to accomplish in 2004 about 22 concerts for the whole country to promote two eps that were not for sale at the stores, due to the indifference of the record labels. The public's interest for the live performances and the 500 sold out copies provoke in a certain way, a positive pay off.
In March of 2005 the cd, "Backyard Desert", is released this time with the production of Paulo Miranda of AMP Studio. A work more elaborated and with some new elements in the universe of High Flying Bird, as the percussion and loops. The tour of promotion of the work travelled the country during the year of 2006.
High flying Bird release in september of 2007 his new cd "Escritos".
Is a new release from the label Medusa Records.
it's an album of ten songs recorded in a very direct way, where every hesitation, every variation in the voice and every change of volume was recorded in just a couple of hours by paulo Miranda in the Amp Studio in Viana do Castelo, Portugal.
A simple and direct album, recorded in a fast and spontaneous way where each hesitation, each volume change and each sentence song resounds to a private moment.
It's a record where is assumed for the first time, songs in Portuguese.
These themes appeared under the form of poems, that took the form of songs.
The Portuguese, because there was simply the will of passing the message to a vaster audience, to feel the force of each word and to establish a more effective form of communication.
High Flying Bird is for the moment promoting this albúm all around the country in the Escritos tour.
