About Hiffen

This profile was edited with Thomas' myspace editor™ V2.5 It was early 1996 when Lizardo Melo (one of the present guitarists), Mário Tavares (present drummer), Nuno Pereira (still the bassist) and Marco Couto (an ex guitarist) decided to join their talents e form a musical band wich name was Angel's Mind and after the join of the vocals perfomed by Hugo Sousa (ex member), in 1997, the band changed the name to HIFFEN. Hiffen means the union between the members due to the friendship since cradle of the founders. With a typical portuguese rock, Hiffen started their career on 10th June 1998 with a live performance at the (now dead) Giestas Rock Fest. By that time the band started to records what could have been their first work but due to the lack of experience they decided not to release the album. Since yet, Hiffen worked hard on their music and just returned to the stages on 20th January, at Cais da Sardinha, but with less two elements (Marco and Hugo), that way guitars and vocals were Lizardo's job. After that Gig the band invited Renato Medeiros (the present solo guitarist) to join them. To fortify the vocals they also invited Catarina Medeiros to be the bands main vocalist and later Andreia Almeida that also quit has also left the band in 2001 November 1st. Hiffen could count only again with one vocalist. In August 2002, Hiffen decided their sound was asking for some more melody, was asking for keyboards so they invited Rui Sousa to join the them. From that on they worked and rearranged their musics and than Andrea Furtado joined them to make the back vocals. It was time to give the next step so Hiffen went to Terceiras island to participate in AngraRock 2003 and they won the first award. Since that the local autorities started to recognize Hiffens talent and they were invited for various shows like an Unplugged in the Casa da Cultura de Ponta Delgada with the support of ANIMA and later in the Campo de S. Francisco, in Ponta Delgada. It was early 2004 when Hiffen started to records what would be their first studio work, recordings that ended in April 7th of the current year (2005). Now the band is searching for a label for their debut CD Crashing while some musics will be playing in the radios.
