Desolation is a word often attributed to the Northeastern United States. The brutal cold of the harsh winters there are matched only by the equally ferocious slew of metal bands devastating the landscape. In recent years, New England has become a veritable Mecca for heavy music. With the success of heavyweights like Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall, and Unearth, the scene has exploded with dozens of metal bands chomping at the bit to emerge as the next big thing. Survival in the scene has become even more difficult with this explosion, and even more so the ability to stand out and truly have a distinguished voice amidst a chorus of hundreds. One such band to stand out from the crowd is young metal quartet Hollow Image.
Driven by the brutal drumming of Lauren Maccagnano, the bone-shattering bass of Pat Flaherty, the infectious riffs of Adam Cutler, and the ferociously intense vocals of Josh Buckley, the group has always devoted themselves to defying trends and producing their own distinct brand of heavy music. With facets of groove-heavy rhythms, uncompromising heaviness, haunting ambience, and memorable hooks, the band draws influence from everyone from Cannibal Corpse to Orgy, while still maintaining their individuality. Honesty and integrity has always been an integral asset of the tightly knit unit, and the four young musicians have fully devoted themselves to unleashing art from within their hearts and souls regardless of the trends established within a particular scene.
Originally formed in Maine in the beginning of 2003, the band played relentlessly throughout New England with a seemingly constant revolving door of members. In 2005, the nucleus of guitarist Adam Cutler and bassist Pat Flaherty relocated to Massachusetts with new vocalist Josh Buckley for a fresh start. The group soon recruited drummer Lauren Maccagnano into the fold, and immediately jumped into an entirely new scene.
For close to two years the quartet devastated venues all over Massachusetts and beyond, playing various high profile shows and making hundreds of new fans and friends alike. They quickly became notorious for one of the most intense live shows in the area, and earned various acclaim for their blistering five song EP “Suffer Through Art” since its release in August of 2006. Still riding atop the success they’ve built for themselves, the group began recording of their first full length album in October of 2007.
Titled “The Decay of Innocence”, the impending slab of thirteen song brutality is set to propel the band another giant leap further in their career. The group has been hard at work at the Studio of Nevermore in Framingham, Massachusetts with former Nullset guitarist Jim Foster at the helm. Never before has the quartet been as focused as in their current state, and “The Decay of Innocence” will display their ultimate musical vision in its purest form. With a target release of late Spring 2008, the first full length album released from Hollow Image will expand their booming voice above the metal scene to a roar of epic proportions.
Since its inception, Hollow Image has played nearly 200 shows all over the Northeastern United States, including slots opening for high profile acts such as Dope, Mushroomhead, Nothingface, Nonpoint, Drowning Pool, Diecast, Psychostick, Manntis, Crossbreed, Gizmachi, Bleed the Sky, Silent Civilian, Skinless, Wednesday 13, Egypt Central, Thy Will Be Done, Amity Lane, Another Black Day, Hydrovibe, The Pennyroyals, 6Gig, and Nobis, as well as playing several dates on the Unsaved Across America Tour 2007 with Deadstar Assembly and Marazene.
