While the mention of their name often invokes raised eyebrows and
amused smiles among the uninitiated, Brisbane four-piece Hungry Kids of
Hungary produce music that inspires equal measures of curiosity and joy.
Forming in March 2007, the band have wasted no time in carving out a
name for themselves in the Australian music scene, helped along by air
play on Triple J’s 2008 and Home and Hosed programs which eventually led to regular rotation on the station.
Dressing their immaculate indie tunes with a healthy dose of 60’s pop
sensibility and lashings of soul, Hungry Kids have clearly done their
rock history homework, but manage to apply their learning without
ever sounding formulaic. Recorded in May 2008 at Brisbane’s Airlock Studios, their self-titled debut EP shows their musical dexterity, skipping lithely between jangly pop gems, hushed ballads and slinky soul numbers.
After snaring a slot at Big Day Out (thanks Unearthed), HKoH headed back into the studio in February to record their second EP Mega Mountain and have since made it their mission to play as many shows as possible.
First single 'Scattered Diamonds' hit radio airwaves becoming a feelgood hit for the summer and saw the guys hit the road with triple j upstarts, the Philly Jays and Washington.
Continuing the touring throughout Winter and well into Spring, the band trekked the country supporting both Little Birdy and Bertie Blackman on their consecutive national tours. While eager to hit the studio once again, the Kids will hit the road for one last round of touring for the year, embarking on their very first headline tour in November with the release of their brand new single 'Let You Down'.
hi guys. if you are still in town before your tour, this should be an awesome free show with some amazing fashion and art! (not to mention the sweet djs and bands)
Now normaly I don't like it when bands advertise their shows & tours on my page...but I like you guys, so I'll let this one slide. I'll see you at Mona Vale.
You are most welcome Ryan.. You guys are awesome!!
Hope your havin a fantabulous sunday!!
Have some new Live recordings up on myspace - if ya wanna check it out.. Live Rehearsal with my band in the AMPEN Studio... Let me know what you think??
Aw well Valley Fiesta sounded great! Music, beer, good weather, mates..not much more you could ask for :) And yeah unforts we have exams next week, so this week we have off to knuckle down and cram like nuts PS I think I just saw you get Next Cropped? Ha ha nice. They should've done that last year! Anyway I hope you're keeping well and all - and getting excited for the tour :) Gutted, once again, that I won't be there. I really don't understand what it is with your gigs and timing and clashes ha ha, very unfortunate! And enjoy The Frowning Clouds - those boys are such a bunch of fun and will hopefully blow your socks off! Best, Steph
hahahaha all is forgiven. i must admit, i'd like it if you changed the song name to 'parisa will never pop out kids one by one' that would probably make my day ahahahahahahhaha
