Sounds Like
The far away details and patterns and other things you see from planes including skateboard shaped clouds and swimming pools. Hitting an air pocket and losing level flight. End of your life guilt. Loneliness paired with a weird love for everyone around you and all your past loves. The cold sweat recovery. Landing at home.
Hurts to Purr, the now-defunct Austin, Texas trio, was formed in 2003 by Liz Pappademas, Tom Benton and Jeremy Bruch. They released a full-length self-titled album in 2005. Producer Kevin Ryan and the band flew to Los Angeles to mix the record with Brian Kehew and earned a slot on NPR's All Songs Considered Open Mic program, but the band parted ways in January of 2006 citing diverging future plans as the cause for the split.
Liz Pappademas has gone on to persue
solo project in California and has a new record due out March 28, 2007.
I went to the Keep Austin Weird concert last night and after What Made Milwaukee Famous rocked out, what beautiful song did they play on their soundsystem? Six Months!! Musically sublime.
Hey Liz, how's it going out west? Don't know if you ever check this page, but this is my holiday note to all my "friends". Pass it on!
* May we be blessed with the awareness in ourselves and in our country to make things better than they have been. Let us acknowledge our own power to transform ourselves and our global position. If we are diligent in our efforts, we WILL change things. I believe the PEOPLE (you and me) are waking up. May we never turn away from our responsibility to ourselves and our neighbors. May we unite in goodness until it overwhelms everything else. *
Happy Solstice to you. May you all find happiness and peace for this season and beyond.
I was listening to a mix I made that has "Mr. Atom" on it and I realized I hadn't looked at the HtP page in a while. "Maybe they are finally touring for the record" I thought to myself. Whaaaaaah? I was so sad to discover HtP is no more. At least we have the record. Sniffle, sniffle.
Purr no more...??? Say it ant so...just goes to show you how much I read blogs...Loved your sound and hope you are all having a good time making use of your talents in other projects and areas of life
yes, the extremely well-lit bookpeople show was quite a change but your solo performance was absolutely gorgeous. look forward to seeing you (and the band) again soon.
your solo performances have been beautiful, i can't wait to see hurts to purr in full. let me know when the next show is and we'll do an interview for austinist.
last night i was going through the indie section in the music portion on myspace.. and i'm not an indie person per-sa but i went through 1000 pages.. to find a band i was dying to find but anyways as i was going through 1000 pages worth of good and bad music i found your band and it blew my mind !!
i love your sound.. and your voice..
even though i didn't find the band i was seeking and stayed up till 4 a.m doing so , IT WAS WORTH IT TO DISCOVER YOUR MUSIC.
Ok, I listened to your album all weekend long.. every drive, every meal, pretty much all the freaking time and I can't STOP!!! Lovely work, y'all. xxoxoxooxoxx
Love your record. If anybody ever asks you, at an industry mixer or somesuch, how you would describe your music I'd tell them it's edgy lush ethereal pop perfect for... intimacy.
