I am the navigator was formed on the cusps of Airplanes to Athens and As the City Sleeps(both local Lincoln, Nebraska bands.) through playing local shows together is where Erich and Jesy first met, and decided to join together when each bands activity began to wane. the first recordings were recorded in December of 2008, in the basement of Erich Bockman(guitars and vocals.) and was quickly followed up by the first show in late December of that same year. I Am The Navigator has moved on to play many more shows around Lincoln and Omaha, building up a fan base along the way. In the summer of 2009 they ventured out of Nebraska to play shows in Kansas and Missouri, and are in the works to plan a summer tour for 2010 throughout the Midwest.
The bands main influences are Bright eyes and the Decembrists. The band decided in January 2009 to put a different and intimate spin on the music by adding a story line . I am the Navigator is finishing up on their first saga, Ivy, about two star crossed lovers who cross the path and upset Mother Nature. She releases a curse upon Ivy and her town, when she unwittingly throws a rock at the sky and cracks it. Ivy is then pulled underground into a deep sleep among the leaves and bugs. Mother Nature decides to call upon the help of wolves, who for many years have lived in fear and silence of men. The pack attacks the town, and Ivy’s lover must offer his life to save the survivors in their town and appease Mother Nature. He ventures into the forest, but Mother Nature in unkind, and takes advantage of having him in her clutches, she takes his life, but doesn’t spare the town. After everyone is gone, Ivy crawls back out from the roots of trees, to realize her fate, is that, of living alone.
Dear Admiral, is the second story set to release later in 2010. A spindly epic about a British naval fleet, who are cursed by a gypsy, and sail the seas bound to serve their admiral until the end of days.
