Alga marghen in currently working on the cd edition of jac berrocal's catalogue which will include the original lp
material as well as several new and historical recordings. the true catalogue of berrocal! it was decided to produce a
10" picture disc with some precious tracks that for one reason or another will not appear on the cd. 'l'union libre', a
famous poem by the surrealist master andre breton, here in a multiple-superimposition version of the wonderful voice of
jacques doyen and the music by jac berrocal recorded in 1985; 'priere', text by antonin artaud spoken by berrocal himself,
including excerpts from 'voyage au bord de la ville' a very abstract and dissonant track with music by berrocal, gilbert
artman and jack belsen, recorded in paris, 2003; 'a satanic prayer', an almost ritual-dub recording created in warszawa,
poland, in 2002; and the catching '1555' a classic piece by berrocal featuring very pure trumpet solos with a background
collage of distant heavily treated and distorted sounds. private edition of 250 copies only.
1993 CD release, "Nurse With Wound fans might recognize this Frenchmans name from various NWW releases
stretching back to 1981s Ostranenie 1913. This CD selects highlights from his career all the way back from avant-rockabilly
stuff in 1971 through performances from 1992. Rock N Roll Station (done most recently by Nurse With Wound from the album of
the same name in 1994) appears here in the original from 1976s album Paralleles LP. The rest of the music included is 50s
car-chase movie rock music and a screechy jazzy influenced tape cut-up dada stream of consciousness random hodgepodge of
twenty years. Instruments and sounds include toy xylophones, accordions, your standard rock instruments as well as some
French spoken excerpts, English interviews and an Asian porn hot and tender enough to drive your libido insane (all I could
think about was boy, that girl was well-micd). Berrocal has had quite an influence on some of the noisemakers we have grown
to love and collect and this disc is a great discovery point. Appearances by Pascal Comelade, Vince Taylor, Jean Francoise
Pauvros, Steven Stapleton, Jonathan Kane." - Megaphone.

Après les orientalismes de Musiq Musiq, l'hommage à Rusolo de
Parallèles, les escapades punkie de Catalogue, Hotel Hotel est
plein d'effets miroirs et de poupées qui s'emboîtent en faisant feu de tous les
désirs du trompettiste qui tournait alors pour Jean-Pierre Mocky avec
Catherine Deneuve (ce qui eut une petite influence sur ce disque). Les trois musiciens
du British Summer Time Ends, le magistral Daunik Lazro (pour un quartet
qui annonce le futur Outlaws in Jazz), le guitariste Cyril Lefebvre sont parmi
les invités multiples de cet élégant banquet.
BERROCAL, l'inclassable, éructe en surmultipliée jazz, rock et déchirures intenses. Il sort un disque tous les trois ans,
histoire de ne pas se répéter. Sur celui-ci, génialement déglingué et parfumé d'un romantisme fin de siècle, les morceaux
sonnent comme une synthèse fantasmée de Public Image, Albert Ayler et John Assel. "Attention chef d'--uvre" :

avec Dominique Coster (trombone, percussions, etc.) et Roger Ferlet (cornet, percussions, etc.). Etrange et mystérieux
comme la rencontre d'un Suisse et d'un Tibétain, avec quelques accents aylerien, tout de même.
The fractal label has tapped into the archives of the quasi-legendary 70’s French avant-garde label Futura and is
reissuing some of its weirdest sound artifacts. Musiq Musik was recorded in 1971-1972, came out in 1973 and stands
as the first album by Jacques Berrocal’s Musik Ensemble (even though it is here credited to Berrocal, Dominique
Coster and Roger Ferlet. Berrocal’s musical vision was already fully formed, challenging, uncompromissing and nutty.
A blend of free jazz, Gamelan, ethnic improv and performance art, the music still sounds as wild today as it did back
then. The three musicians play trumpet, trombone, cornet and various Middle-and Far-Eastern horns and percussion.
The list of instruments also includes balloons ropes and explosives ! The music is all screeches, clangs and ululations
as the trio explores new musical grounds with a compelling sense of urgency. “Pièces à Lanam” and “Leïla Concerto” are
written down and charming in an alien way, while “Anonymous” and “Cryptea” leave room for more improvisation and take
more difficult forms. The album is short (only 30 minutes) but intense and affirms Berrocal’s standing as one of France’s
leading maverick creators of the decade (and the next). Musiq Musik appeared on the legendary list of influences included
with Nurse With Wound’s first album.

A three CD box with excellent 56 page booklet dedicated to the music of France that was initially fueled by the Revolt
of '68, with one CD dedicated to each decade since. Some material is commonly available, much of it is not; the first CD
covers the seventies (1969-77) and features some pretty mind-blowing stuff from the peak years of free-rock cacophony.

Qui sont les hors-la-loi ? Lesquels ont transgressé ? Ceux qui (se) (s)ont inventés d'autres lois ? Ou ceux qui
choisissent aujourd'hui, en marge des autoroutes, les pistes de tous les dangers ? Reste que ce répertoire,
moins convenu et guère rabâché, recèle encore bien des pouvoirs de charme et de surprise
With a full roster of Nato label notables at his disposal (Steve Beresford, Jac Berrocal, Mike Cooper, Roger Turner,
Georgie Born and Joelle Leandre to name just a few), this legendary soprano/sopranino sax master tackles some oddly
disparate idioms on Couscous. Unusually, the album begins not with any Coxhill music, but instead with a 7+ minute uncut
excerpt of Buck Funk and the Rev. Antony W. Reeves from a scratchy old 1920's era wax cylinder disc playing playing some
very mournful melancholic sounds. What follows is a near Globe Unity Orchestra-scale free jazz deconstruction of the
proceeding piece, resulting in a New-Orleans-funeral-marching-band-gone-wonky sound that's gorgeously Ayler-esque.
Though these deformations form the high point here, there's much else to love about Couscous, not least the seriously
screwy album closer featuring Coxhill's trio formation The Recedents with Mike Cooper and Roger Turner, creating a work
whose sound is precisely what you'd mentally conjure from the title "...And Lo! The Chapel Walls Trembled At The Voice Of
The Mighty Cukoo".
