For Jared “Pete” Gile, the formula has always been simple:
“Do what you love to do, until you’re too broke to do it anymore or you’re dead.”
Lucky for him, and his fans, he’s alive and well, and so is his music career. A career as a solo singer/songwriter act that has taken him from performing in small smoky bars scattered across his home state of Kansas, to performing in clubs all across the entire Midwest region of the United States.
After completing 2 degrees in college, Pete decided to put off getting a 9 to 5 job and take a stab at living his version of the American Dream. A version of the American Dream which included singing his songs to people anywhere they would listen.
After a six month stint touring as the front man of his own band following the release of his debut album “Modern Day Mountain Man” in 2003, several happenings made him realize that he was much happier and more effective as a solo act.
“I just found I was more “at home” during my solo shows. Being onstage by myself allowed me to connect with the audience on a more personal level, which as a songwriter is a big deal. Not to mention the fact that I was able to become more profitable as a solo artist, this in turn started making the clubs I was playing more profitable too. The decision to go solo was a real win-win for everybody“
Now on the eve of the release of his second independent record, “More of Me”, Pete is as ready as ever to take his new music on the road.
“I really wanted the new album to be more representative of who I am as a musician and performer now, hence the name “More of Me.” That’s also why I decided to include some live cuts as bonus tracks on this record. The live cuts give the listener a little snapshot of what my shows are really like and also gives them the chance to hear my songs in their rawest form.”
Writing and playing his own music has allowed him to have conversations with folks like the legendary Willie Nelson, Gordon Lightfoot, and Robert Earl Keen. His versatile writing style and live show has earned him opening spots for artists ranging from well known songwriters like Darrell Scott, Max Stalling, and Houston Marchman, to acts who have built careers around high energy live shows like Cross Canadian Ragweed, Kevin Fowler and Jason Boland and the Stragglers.
His live shows combine small town charm with wry wit and sly humor. He sings from the heart and plays through the soul. He can make you laugh, he can make you cry and he can make you think. But most importantly, he can always make you have one helluva good time.
