Bio
..Jay Dunphy has been entertaining audiences with his original brand of roots-rock for nearly seven years. Often compared to The Rolling Stones, The Band, Steve Earle and Bob Dylan, his music fuses elements of folk and Americana with a contemporary sound. ..His sophomore album, "If Winning is Inevitable... Whats the Point in Playing?", saw Jay Dunphy taking on a more rock-oriented sound than his debut, "Season of the Deadened". Released in the fall of 2005, the album spent two weeks in the top 30 of local college radio station CFUV and made their list of most played local albums for 2005, as well as hitting Top 10 in Lethbridge and Kamloops. ..Dunphy has recently released his third album, "Dedicated to No One In Particular." This proves to be his most refined recording to date. With Dunphy at the helm of this project and producer Terry Quiring directing as well as playing many of the parts featured on the album, it's tough to argue this is, at least, Jay's best performances. The album also highlights some local Victoria music celebrities with the likes of Scott Henderson on brass and winds (featured on "Lullaby For Kessiah-Jaye") and recording engineer's Hayden Cyr (www.mindyourselfmusic.com ) and Myke Hall (Last Resort Recording) on Faggot Honey and Lullaby For Kessiah-Jaye respectively. -

Influences
Kiss, Led Zeppelin, The Stones, Hank Williams Sr., Black Sabbath, Conor Oberst, Badly Drawn Boy, Wilco, Sun Volt, Neil Diamond, Iron Maiden, The Beatles (don't trust a musician who doesn't mention The Beatles), Judas Priest, Bob Dylan, Robert Johnson, Dan Bern, My Morning Jacket, Wil Oldham, Johnny Cash, Springsteen, Iron and Wine, Pink Floyd, G'n'R, Ryan Adams (Heartbreaker), Martha Wainwright, David Bowie, Peter Gabriel, Pixies, Leonard Cohen, Gordon Lightfoot, Band Of Horses, CSN&Y, The Arcade Fire, Hayden, Sara Harmer, David P. Smith, Clay George, Feist, Broken Social Scene, Crystal Gayle, Emmylou Harris, old Rod Stewart, Elton John, Kris Kristopherson.....ect.ect.ect. Basically anyone with something to say and a hook. Some guilty pleasures : Bee Gees (I also DON'T hate disco), Dolly Parton, Anne Murray, Shawn Phillips, John Denver, Roger Whittaker (Nostalgic purposes only), Kenny Rogers...and they get progessively more personal and tragic from there... Thank God for the rational, "They/he/she craft(s)a great song." This wonderful catch phrase alone has given me the freedom to bring my guilty pleasures to the forefront. -
Sounds Like
Been compared to Steve Earle. Been called Dylanesque. Have heard Ryan Adams, and even Violent Femmes.
