Jeff Hill is one of the most highly sought after bass players in New York City and beyond, who is known for his fat sound, deep pocket, and exceptional background vocal abilities.
While living in Chicago in the early nineties he was active on the music scene playing with jazzmen Von Freeman, Ira Sullivan, Johnny Frigo, Lin Halliday, Jodie Christian, and Curtis Fuller, among others. Jeff was also a member of the Sabertooth Jazz Quintet and Ted Sirota's Rebel Souls Ensemble.
In 1996 Jeff moved to NY City and in early 1999 he began touring and recording as a bassist and background vocalist with acclaimed singer songwriter Rufus Wainwright. He continues to tour and record as a member of his band. Jeff has also performed or recorded with Joan Baez, Martha Wainwright, Keren Ann, Wax Poetic, Shivaree, Rich Robinson, Teddy Thompson, Kate and Anna McGarrigle, Cry Cry Cry, Peter Salett, Joan as Policewoman, David Mead, Jim Campilongo, Victoria Williams, Shannon McNally, Marshall Crenshaw, Linda Thompson, Robert Randolph, Chris Stills, Amy Correia, Trey Anastasio, Paula Cole, Harper Simon, Julianna Hatfield and The Scissor Sisters among others.
Jeff has been a member of the brooklyn based band Goats In Trees since 1997 and in 2002 formed the band Hazy Malaze, with fellow rythm section members of Shannon McNally's touring band, Neal Casal and Dan Fadel. Hazy Malaze has toured throughout the US and Europe, and released two records, "Hazy Malaze" and "Blackout Love", on the Fargo label. After co Producing a record for Jon Darling (formerly with "the Miami Relatives") with Ethan Eubanks the project has become a band called "the Grey Race" and has signed to Unfiltered Records. "The Grey Race" released it's debut CD " Give It Love" September 2007 and supported Rufus Wainwright in Spain. The Grey Race is currently working on our second effort.
Jeff has been busy Producing a record for Frally Hynes which should be finished any day now. Jeff will also be playing some shows with The Brazilian Girls, Harper Simon, and The Cardinals with Gin Wigmore this fall. Stay tuned...
