From AllMusic.com "...Like the later Windbreakers or Crippled Pilgrims, Hart has delivered a flawless set that is so instantly pleasing it's as if he digested not only all those bands' records, but all the '60s LPs that inspired them too, and wrote songs that Tom Petty would probably forfeit a tooth or two for, the kind that Roger McGuinn would favor"
-Jack Rabid, The Big Takeover
" His prize possession is a guitar signed by over a dozen of his heroes including Paul Westerberg, John Hiatt, Robert Earl Keen, and Matthew Sweet - with a combination of that foursome providing a decent description of Hart's sound ... and from a Byrds-eye view, the pre-Clarence White Byrds." - Rick Cornell, NO DEPRESSION.
WOULD SOUND GOOD ON A MIX TAPE WITH: The dB's, Freedy Johnston, The Vertebrats,The Windbreakers, The Sinceros.
Recent projects include part time Neil Young / Crazy Horse cover band "Young Neil and The Damage Done", Meltzer-Hart (with Tom Meltzer), and a Television (Marquee Moon era)tribute band called Amps Do Furnish a Room in which the artist and album changes every year. He's played bass and guitar with other NC standouts such as the
Two Dollar Pistols, Chris Stamey's Big Band and Robert Kirkland & The Hanks following the breakup of Arrogance. A 20 year veteran of the NC music meat grinder, primarily in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill clubs. Though original in his pop-craft, his indie-roots guitar influences can be traced to the Flying Burrito Brothers, The Beatles, The Byrds, Neil Young, The Kinks, Tom Petty, the Replacements and even Television.
Hello, it's me, Ruby Jane. I am a 14 year old fiddler, songwriter. I have some songs posted that are fresh out of the studio. Let me know if you like the new songs..be one of the first to hear, even before they are released! Thanks! new videos too! Ruby Jane
I would sell my blood to see Elvis...but that's me. I'm a bit strange. :) I liked your blog comment. Luckily I am always up and about when my local garbage crew arrives. It's a good thing...I think the noise combined with the trash-can tossing would be too much for me to handle!
Ooooo! Blood & Chocolate is another fave of mine! Are you going to see Elvis in Cary in June? I would like to drive down for that one even though I will be seeing him in DC a few days earlier...but I think Val would kick my ass for going to see Elvis without her :)
To be honest, I'm not sure! We definitely had other things to listen to...I think I was just obsessed with it at the time and it seemed to fit the mood. The White Album is definitely a great choice as well. I think Julia is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. I adore the lyric, "Half of what I say is meaningless but I say it just to reach you..." My desert island disc would probably be one of two Costello records...Get Happy or King of America. I can't decide on which one I prefer though :)
George is my favorite Beatle! I usually get odd looks when I say that so it's cool to hear that someone else has the same opinion. I love "All Things Must Pass"...which is sort of surprising as Valerie and I were once snowbound during a blizzard and it is, literally, the ONLY record we listened to for 2 weeks. I would think that would create an aversion to anything :)
As do I..but I am a sucker with anything featuring George's understated vocals. That's why I love "All Things Must Pass" so much. "Behind That Locked Door", "Beware of Darkness, "I'd Have You Anytime"...I must go listen to it now! :)
A blatant plug for our upcoming show at the Cave in Chapel Hill on 4/25. Four all-instrumental bands goin' at it in a pile of lyric-free Ambrosia. If none of the ga-zillion bands you're in is playing that night, come on down!
Jeff, When I saw the small icon of this picture on my page, I thought it read, "Jeff Hart Hot Vegetable Platter." Curiosity compelled me to click to your page to find what that was all about. "Most Valuable Player" definitely is more fitting.
