National touring/recording artist and Montana-based jazz singer Jeni Fleming and her 6-piece jazz combo are currently on tour. Backed by electric and acoustic guitars, upright bass, drums, and saxophone, Jeni creates an enchanting mix of classical and jazz dichotomies in one breath, breezy folk tunes with a modern twist, and vibrant original pop in another. Marked with her signature lush ballads, the songs and stories of Jeni Fleming are winning the hearts of audiences from coast to coast.
Jeni Fleming is a graduate of Montana State University, Bozeman, with a Bachelor of Music Performance. She has performed as a vocalist at many major festivals including the UNC Greeley Jazz Festival, (winning 2 Outstanding Soloist Awards), The Yellowstone Jazz Festival, the Powell Jazz Festival, The Juan de Fuca Festival, The Phillipsburg Jazz Festival, several performances at Jazz Montana (opening for Hilton Ruiz, Dave Valentine, Nicholas Payton, Tim Warfield, Cyrus Chestnut, Gary Bartz and Stefon Harris), and most recently at Jazz Fest International, Victoria, BC. Upcoming jazz festival appearances also include Jazz in the Canyon, and the Minot Jazz Festival.
The Jeni Fleming Trio was featured in the pilot episode of 11th and Grant with Eric Funk, which aired on Montana PBS in September of 2005, winning a regional Emmy. As well, Jeni and Jake were featured on a nationally televised program by the Odyssey Channel in 1998 for the supporting tour of their 1998 album, It Is Well. Jeni maintains a large private studio of piano and voice students, and with her husband Jake is the co-founder of the non-profit organization Hand Me Down Some Silver, Inc., a scholarship endowment created to help students pay for private music lessons, instruments, and CD projects.
With 5 titles in her discography, Jeni Fleming mainly tours a concert series with her Trio (upright bass/electric guitar, acoustic guitar/saxophone), and jazz/arts festivals with her jazz combo. The addition of her last album, “We’ll Be Together Again, The Jeni Fleming Trio with The String Orchestra of the Rockies,” has created a growing demand for her performances with symphony orchestras including The Black Hills Symphony, Rapid City, SD, and The Port Angeles High School Orchestra.
Michel Bedin of the Parisian magazine Jazz Hot calls the group, "a rare elegance...[revealing] a great sensitivity and a beautiful musicality."
The Big Sky Journal remarked that "[after] an evening of this, you're both whipped and exhilarated. You've wiped your eyes, yet your cheeks hurt from all the grinning."
You are wonderful. My good buddy Dylan from Rapid introduced me to your music years ago, and I was captivated. Thank you for sharing your gift and making the world a more beautiful place.
