The Goon Show, late Beatles, Stockhausen, Cage, Fripp/Eno and lots of other folks who've worked with tape delay/loops - like Steve Reich and Terry Riley, AMM, Spontaneous Music Ensemble, Ovary Lodge, Nihilist Spasm Band, Gravity Adjusters Expansion Band...
Sounds Like
A bag of hammers falling down a long metal staircase, or a drop of rain on your cheek.
Officially an old geezer (over 50). Mostly lived in the east end of Toronto, except for four years in England as a wee child. That's about all you need to know about the personal stuff. Now the "musical" side:
Been making noises with whatever was available for most of my life, with only a few (failed) attempts at formal training on any sort of "real" instrument.
Started recording things after the acquisition of a good-quality open-reel recorder in 1973 (Tandberg 3341X).
Most acoustic sound sources are found objects either played as is or modified into something resembling an instrument, though I usually refer to the things as "implements." Electronics are often employed for sound manipulation, or as a source by themselves. Open-reel tape recorders still used, frequently in a delay arrangement (a.k.a. Time Lag Accumulator, Frippertronics).
LP "Dimensions" released independently in 1986, available from http://www.pingthings.com as a cd-r or streamed at http://www.sonus.ca
3" cd-r "Little Bag o'Loops" released independently in 2004. Also available from pingthings.
Member of three (semi)regular ensembles: Six Heads, Odradek, and NOINO.
I also do a regular radio programme on CKLN-FM (see the "friends" link). Sunday nights, 23:30 - 02:00 Eastern time. Strange, weird, experimental, electro-acoustic, modern orchestral/chamber, improvised...
Oh, and though nobody has done it yet, please don't spam my comment box with adverts for YOUR stuff; why do you think they call it MYspace?
hey, either way, glad you can go play at Victo; Glen Hall has performed down here before at The Bop Shop and I'm glad youz guyz can be "The Toronto Tontos" at this year's FIMAV. Speakin' of Ra-cha-cha, I understand that the Ferry Service will be resuming at some point, guess you'll be able to boat over with the Bike at some time after all.....
Thanks for adding me! I found a link to this page on Looper's Delight. We just finished our 2007 touring "season" and are taking a few months off. However, we'll start booking shows again in spring and would love to an Ambient Ping - provided we can make all the arrangements. Please fill me in on the details when you have the time.
Hey man! what's up in the wired world?
let me know if you have any shows coming up. there was somebody asking me about a theremin player, she was curious how it sounds and works. After 80 years :) go figure. anyway, keep in touch!
