Jörg Brinkmann – Cello - Der 1976 geborene Cellist Jörg Brinkmann ist musikalisch auf sehr vielen verschiedenen Feldern aktiv. Seine Engagements als Bühnenmusiker für unterschiedliche Produktionen am Bochumer Schauspielhaus, seine Dozententätigkeit an der Universität und vor allem seine Arbeit in Bands von Jazz bis Pop zeigen seine Bandbreite und Flexibilität. Seit vielen Jahren arbeitet er intensiv kammermusikalisch in kleineren Ensembles und Bands, und erweitert auf eine ganz eigene Weise die Möglichkeiten eines Cellos in zumeist eher cellofreien Gebieten. Seine musikalische Aktivität führte ihn mit Orchestern, Kammermusikensembles und Bands auf Tourneen durch Europa, Afrika und Russland. September 2008 erschien das erste Album des Jörg Brinkmann Trios beim Label ACT in der Reihe Young German Jazz.

The Guardian, September 08 Jörg Brinkmann is that rare being, a jazz-cellist. Some bass-players(notably Dave Holland) have deployed the instrument on the side, but it..s Brinkmanns principle voice that..s featured in this recently emerged but already prizewinning trio alongside pianist and fender rhodes player Oliver Maas and percussionist Dirk-Peter Kölsch. There are 18 short tracks here (a few under a minute) -from EST-like slow-burners, to sombre but accelerating waltzes, infectously bright electric-funky sprints and mournful chamber-music ruminations. There are headlong, postbob uptempo swingers, with Brinkmanns cello performing a perfectly creditable bass-walk while Maas (who includes John Taylor and Uri Caine among his influences) streams imperiously into space. The atmospheric September draws evocatively from Brinkmanns classical roots, and the jaunty Live in Hamburg is like Frank Zappa with Ska. This is a group from an environment we didnt expect to see for a long time yet- a post-EST world. But it..s an honourable and very entertaining inheritor.
