Jo Mistinguett undergraduated in Disk Jockey Studies and Musical Production at the International Electronic Music Accademy of Curitiba (AIMEC). Thanks to a musical feeling and an excellent technic she was an outstanding student. Still during her studies, she began to play in nighclubs and pubs of the city which quickly enhanced her involvement with the musical universe. This first DJ experience lead to the necessity to produce her own music.
The carrier of JM began in the alternative nightlife of Curitiba where she played in several places. She also produced her own events. Besides this city, she also worked in the state of SC in raves such as Scarpin 69 (BC) and Devassa (Fpolis).
In 2006, in cooperation with Péricles M (current Boss In Drama), she created the band Gomma Fou, an electro-rock group where Mistinguett sang and played a sintetizers line live. After a first presentation in the city of Curitiba, the band got growing in importance and went on a tour in several great electronic raves in the whole South region of Brazil. This tour includes several shows in a rock festival in the city of BC, the rave Devassa in Fpolis and the rave Orgasmo in PA, biggest electro party in the state of RS.
Gomma Fou would know its climax in the same year, in the Motomix Festival. Actually, the festival openned a concurse called Motormix Project Band, to offer new independent artists the opportunity to step into a huge studio. They would also get lessons with great names of the brazilian music such as the producer Dudu Marote connected to renouwned bands such as Skank and Pato Fu. Still they would be allowed to play together with great international names such as Franz Ferdinand and Art Brut, among others.
Even if only one person per band was allowed to take part of the Motormix Project, Gomma Fou showed such high levels of creativity and vocal lines, that the organizers of the project decided to change the rules so that the group with its two components would be allowed to take part of it. More than 10.000 people attended the show. Critics was very positif in the press and on Internet. The Extra USA Newspaper of NY even dedicated a whole page to the group.
When Gomma Fou stopped, JM carried on her own solo project – Mistinguett – by composing, producing and singing her own music. With outstanding vocals and some influence of new-wave, post-punk, synth-pop and electro-punk, Mistinguett quickly got the attention of a few producers among whom Marcel Dadalto (Zémaria). Together, they made up the independent EP “Will you stay here?”, in 2007. “Will you stay here?” was immediatly recognised as a succes; it was primed with the London Burning in the category of best electronic music independent EP in the country.
Mistinguett made her first steps on the stage in 2007 after an invitation of the producers of Motomix – The Rock Festival. This time, however, in great style: she would open the show of one of the highest points of the festival, german artist Boys Noize – in the Vegas Club, one of the best nighclubs of São Paulo. In december that year, she invited DJ All Starz (precursor of the electro scene of Curitiba) for a partnership on the bases and back vocals in her live act. The duo went on a tour all over Brazil.
Mistinguett ensures more and more a strong place in the e-music. Her EP was indicated to the prize Tim, biggest national prize in music. This indication brought good results which can be measured by the several remixes of the music issued: the danish tlbmS, the brazilian Database, de italian NT89, the japanese Shoyano, all of them available at www.myspace.com/jomistinguettmx.
In 2008, Mistinguett was on a tour in Europe, with presentations in renowned clubs such as Casa Música in Portugal and Showcase in France.
2009 is a very active year for Mistinguett: she played in Colombia, her music She-ra was used in the movie Audie & The Wolf, she composed the sound track for Fashion Parade Renaux View, got a cooperation with the german electro-punk singer Näd Mika, besides working with the french Costello whose music reached the fourth top place in Beatport's sales.
This year she also issued the EP “Between the Good and the Bad”, with influences of nu disco. She now prepares a new EP with post-punk and electro-punk influences.
At the same time, Jo Mistinguett also engaged in theather and performing areas by adapting and producing with music the dramaturg and performer Léo Glück. Together with her, she created Word (meaningful elements of speech) the only electronic vaudeville for Brazil. They appeared together in shows as Expressões Oi na Rua, Edition of the city of Curitiba.
