A YOUNG JONATHAN BATISTE PERFORMING IN NEW ORLEANS PRE KATRINA
As only a shooting star appears very rarely, the same is true of an artist who's abilties on and off the stage form the perfect combination to create an iconic humanitarian that leads a generation into the next level of social consciousness. This artist is not only a virtuoso on his instrument, studied to the highest degree, but is also an articulate and universal communicator and an icon of style and originalty. This artist is respected by young laypersons and old masters alike. This artist is Jonathan Batiste.
*THE JON BATISTE BAND*
An artist like this could only function in the highest of company. His band includes young virtuoso's Joe Saylor, Phil Kuehn, Eddie Barbash and Matt "Silky Soul" Marantz (all still under 24yrs old). They perform all over the world and are slowly gaining the attention that seems destined them. Their music is a unique blend of Jazz, R&B, Soul, Rock, Classical, and Blues.
They call it SOCIAL MUSIC.
Whenever they perform, audiences leave feeling refreshed, enlightened, in love, ecstatic, nostaligic, empowered and most importantly: ready for more and more!
*JON BATSITE' MUSICAL BEGINNINGS*
Batiste is part of a culturally rich and significant lineage of New Orleans musicians and musical families known worldwide. He is the most recent arrival from the Batiste family of New Orleans. At the age of 8, he was already featured singing with his family in Japan. He later performed with them on percussion, and by 12 had found his destiny: the piano. His family is respected as one of the top families in the creation of the cities musical landscape for generations. These were the roots of his musical begginings. Since then he has performed, recorded and toured over 30 countries with artist such as Harry Connick Jr., Abbey Lincoln, Jimmy Buffett, Lenny Kravitz, Ellis Marsalis, Wynton Marsalis, The Batiste Brothers, Alvin Batiste, and currently with Cassandra Wilson & Roy Hargrove. He has three CD releases under his own name, the first released when he was 17 and still studying at the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts (NOCCA) High School in New Orleans. He is also a graduate of the Juillard School in New York City. This kid is official!
*HE LEADS A GENERATION*
His ability to communicate to a wide range of audiences is apparent. He debuted at Carnegie Hall when he was 18 years old, has perfomed at major music festivals worldwide, and was the youngest featured performer at the 2008 NBA All-Star game alongside other New Orleans' musical icons on his instrument: Dr. John, Allen Tousiannt, Ellis Marsalis, Harry Connick Jr, and the Neville Brothers. At only 22 years old, he is clearly hailed by those of his generation, and by all of the living legends on his instrument, as the undisputed heir to the throne. He is a young man of extreme poise, character, intelligence, charm, and sophistication that is unparrelled by his peers. He can not be stopped, and nor should he be.
