An accomplished solo guitarist, Jon’s sheer love of music combined with his connection to his instrument and his technical mastery make for a musician of rare caliber. Hailing from a diverse range of musical influences from Celtic, Classical, Jazz, African, Electronica, Bluegrass & Folk, Rock & Heavy Metal, Jon Sousa is a melting pot of musical gold. His greatest passion currently resides in his solo guitar repertoire, comprised mainly of traditional Celtic arrangements, with some Classical, Jazz, and dazzling original compositions. Jon is also an adept Celtic tenor banjoist and Celtic-rhythm guitar accompanist as well as an accomplished Sabar drummer. Jon has toured throughout the US and northern Europe and has studied with world-renown solo guitarist Pierre Bensusan at his home in Northern France and master Celtic fingerstyle guitarist, Tony McManus at his home in Elora, Ontario. Jon also has a deep love for the culture and arts of Senegal, West Africa and studied Sabar Drumming in Senegal, under the guidance of his teacher and friend, master griot, Boubacar Djiebate. Lately, Jon has been collaborating with concertina player Martin O’Brien from county Clare, Ireland; the duo has teamed up for a US and International tour in the last year and plans for a CD may surface in the not too distant future.
"Jon is a truly gifted musician, artist and performer. He combines breathtaking technical expertise with an incredible depth of being that shines though his music. "Glad that your enjoyed your brief stay in our special corner of France. To all potential hosts out there - Jon is the perfect guest. And if you have a dog, Jon even brings his own dog basket (once the guitar is removed). May the rest of your trip be filled with sunshine and honey. A bientôt, Brian, Pierrette and Ruby" - House Concert Hosts, Duravel, France.
