Josh Charles was mentored by Dr. John and has always had a deep love for New Orleans. So much so, he was in the process of making New Orleans his home when Katrina hit. Scheduled to record at Ultrasonic Studios the day after Katrina hit, that great studio was destroyed by the storm. Josh left New Orleans on one of the last busses that set out to Houston.
In December 2005, just three months later, he went back to record with Dr. John's blessing and members of his band at Piety Street, the only recording studio left after the storm. While there, Josh went on a congressional pass tour of the Ninth Ward, allowing him to see sections that were not open to the public. He was so moved by the devastation that he wrote "Healing Time" in an effort to bring light in a time of darkness to people's lives affected by Katrina. Visiting New Orleans again in 2006, performing at Jazz Fest and Piano Night, Josh was shocked at how little had been done.
We have structured a revolutionary partnership with Amazon.com and Tunecore.com allowing Josh to give 100% of each $.99 download of "Healing Time" directly to the Preservation Resource Center of New Orleans (PRCNO) to help rebuild New Orleans.
All proceeds will go to The Preservation Resource Center of New Orleans (PRC) which has been active in revitalizing historic inner-city neighborhoods since 1974. The PRC’s mission is to preserve the historic architecture and neighborhoods of New Orleans, in so doing contributing to the vitality of the entire city.

In his own words:
Hey everybody .... I'm a piano player. Write songs. Sing and play some guitar. And been very fortunate to have played with some great musicians from Wynton Marsalis and Tony Bennett to Johnny Adams. Since I was a kid, I've played the gamut -- the worst dive bars with piano keys so jagged that I cut up my fingers every night, some amazing concert halls, outdoor festivals, great clubs and even floating theaters at sea. My mentor/teacher and friend is Dr. John and I can say that I am blessed to have had the opportunity to learn from a master.
As far as my music goes, I'm just trying to write songs that move people and have something to say. Thankfully, I've been lucky to find a lyricist named Ric Steel who brings out the heart and soul of the human spirit with his words- my Bernie Taupin. If my music makes you feel sad, joyous, or anything else after hearing it, then I guess I've done my job. When I get onstage to perform, well that's the only place in the world I want to be at that time. I will give you everything I have and more because that is what I do -- Play like it's the last show I'll ever do.
I grew up in Kansas City and started playing in blues clubs when I was a teenager. New York City (Brooklyn) is my home right now even though I"m more of a "wandering nomad" type and I feel a close kinship to New Orleans. It's hard to put into words what that city means to me, but having been there right up until Hurricane Katrina and spent a lot of time there since, I can say that it's one of the most important and influential places in my life as an artist.
My debut -Josh Charles EP features members of Dr. John's band, my touring band, and was recorded in New Orleans and New York. My co-producer, Steve Jabas and I spent months and countless hours working on the EP and worked with one of the best mixers around now -- Ken Lewis (Jay-Z, Beastie Boys, Lenny Kravitz). So many great people and amazing musicians were involved and I am so grateful to have been able to work with each and every one of them.
I hope you dig the music and come out to the shows. Come say hi and feel free to email me here. I'll get back to you as much as I can. Other than that, all I can say is "let the music play"

Things that sound dirty at Thanksgiving, but aren’t…
Whew, that's one terrific spread! I'm in the mood for a little dark meat. Tying the legs together keeps the inside moist. Talk about a huge breast! It's Cool Whip time! If I don't undo my pants, I'll burst! Are you ready for seconds yet? Are you going to come again next time? It's a little dry, do you still want to eat it? Just wait your turn, you'll get some! Don't play with your meat. Just spread the legs open & stuff it in. Do you think you'll be able to handle all these people at once? I didn't expect everyone to come at once! You still have a little bit on your chin. Use a nice smooth stroke when you whip it. How long will it take after you stick it in? You'll know it's ready when it pops up. Wow, I didn't think I could handle all of that! How many are coming? That's the biggest one I've ever seen! Just lay back & take it easy...I'll do the rest. How long do I beat it before it's ready?
"Gratitude is our most direct line to God and the angels. If we take the time, no matter how crazy and troubled we feel, we can find something to be thankful for. The more we seek gratitude, the more reason the angels will give us for gratitude and joy to exist in our lives."
