Justdefy's slogan says it all: Metal... nuff said!!
Unhappy with the current state of musical trends and genre labeling, Justdefy brings back something metal music seems to have lost - energy. Too many bands today explore their 'emotional' side and write whiny-bitch songs about 'having issues.' Well fuck that! Justdefy writes music about good old fashion cool shit: nuclear warfare, moshing, ghosts, nightmares, etc. But they tackle pertinent socio-economical issues as well, like responsibility and the ever-loving broken heart. But you won't hear any 'woe is me' bullshit in their songs. Their 'love song' has no love. And frankly, they like it that way. They have one goal - kick your ass with no punches pulled.
Justdefy's roots started in the typical "garage band" way. Back in high school, Roger got a guitar and Jeremy got a drum set. They would get together to play songs of their favorite bands in Jeremy's garage. Soon after, Bryan picked up bass guitar. Another high school friend, John Maynarich, joined in on guitar. This all started with one goal in mind... to have fun. Later, Kevin was brought in on lead guitar, and not needing 3 guitarists, John switched to vocals. With this lineup, and under the name "Skull Squadron," the band started to write a few original songs and played a few parties and a couple of 'battle of the bands.' At some point, it was decided that John was not able to commit enough time to the band, and was kicked out on his ass (actually, it was a mutual thing... but it just sounds so boring and cliche that I felt it needed to be spiced up a bit). After a few auditions for a new vocalist that went sour, the band went into a bit of a slump. Bryan decided he would take a shot at vocal duties, and continue bass as well. With some practice, work and some new songs, the band felt a name change was also in order. It was found in the Dream Theater song, "As I Am": 'I've been trying to justify you - In the end I will just defy you.' This perfectly describes how the band felt about the 'popular' music they were hearing on the radio. Instead of trying to conform to what is expected of new metal bands, they will play what they want and have fun doing it. Soon the band started getting actual bar gigs (which paid!!). Most recently, Justdefy finally got the opportunity to open for a (inter)national touring act. They had the honor of opening up for Epica w/Visions of Atlantis at the IROCK Nightclub.
And that's where the band is today...
I am particapating in a tribute to Hendrix on april 25. It's going to be televized and promoted. So, more guitar players are needed. The song is Hey Joe. Regardless of how many players show up, there are going to be about 4 main ones that are actually going to be playing. It's almoust imposivble to have all 50-100 players play at the same time. So this is a exposure for all the guitar players and to show appreciation to Hendrix. So if you are or know anyone interested let me know or go to
