JWW & the Prospectors were formed in mid-2007 by six seasoned Austin musicians whose prior professional experience had led to gigs throughout central Texas and tours of the United States and Europe. Members of the band have played with or currently play with Big Sandy and His Fly-Rite Boys, the Bad Livers, the Racketeers, Kim Lenz, Cave Catt Sammy, the Black Irish, WT Special, Lucas Hudgins, and Jason Arnold and the Stepsiders.
The band was brought together by a shared passion for the great honky-tonk and western swing music of the mid-20th century South and Southwest, including artists such as the Maddox Brothers and Rose, Milton Brown, Floyd Tillman, Hank Thompson, Hank Williams and, of course, Bob Wills. While some of their peers dabble in music from this period, the Prospectors uniquely capture the raucous energy of the great bands of the past that had to keep field hands and roughnecks happy and dancing till the cows came home. While they have received accolades from their fellow musicians for their instrumental virtuosity and the caliber of their songwriting, it is their sheer joy of entertaining an audience that makes JWW & the Prospectors a band not to be missed.
Over the last two years, JWW and the Prospectors have gigged throughout the Central Texas area. The band also held a one-year residency at Austin’s Scoot Inn, playing host to touring bands, as well as friends like Brennen Leigh, Dave Insley and Shotgun Party.
In 2008, JWW & the Prospectors recorded a well-received EP of western swing and hillbilly cover tunes. The band is currently recording a full-length album that will primarily feature original material composed by the band. A release is planned for late 2009.
