Influences
My influences change from time to time. Right now I listen to a lot of Pink, Sara Bareilles, KT Tunstall, some Christina Aguilera, Jane Monheit, Jill Scott, Tamia, Billy Joel, Steve Vai, Lina, Ludo, Alanis Morissette, Coldplay, and many independent artists, including: Code Anchor, More Than Me, Shimmerplanet, Chris Cubetta and the Liars Club, Bryann Dunn, and Andy Mac. I also listen to quite a bit of classical, 80's, Ragtime, and anything with a good piano line.
-- Katie Norris began playing piano at 8 by teaching herself. Soon after she learned the
basics, she began writing and quickly developed her skills. After graduating high school in
Calvert County, Maryland; Katie went on to Frostburg State University, Md. where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in theatre and music. She is quoted at saying; “I wanted to learn the rules of music so I would know how to break them.”
-- Directly after college, Katie followed her heart and moved to NYC. However, after 4 months in the big city, she ran into financial trouble and was forced to make a decision to leave. However, instead of returning to Maryland, Katie joined the Big Apple Circus and did a full tour with them, saving her money to go back to NYC. Katie performed at open mics and small venues in NYC with the songs she wrote during her tour with the circus. She recorded her EP, “LITTLE SECRETS” and began selling her CD’s.
--After 2 years in NYC, she moved to Los Angeles, Ca. Only 2 months in L.A., she met director, D. Nelson, who wanted to do a music video of her song, “IN MY SLEEP”. The video was produced and can be viewed on her myspace page as well as YouTube. Her songs are a mix of pop, rock, and intriguing melodies and transitions. Her lyrics are deep and reflect her interesting life from suburbs to the city.
