Sounds Like
Every Band in the World, all Jamming along to the same tune, on the same stage, at the same time
Katlama formed in 2001 with a core membership of Karen ‘Kat’ Swift on vocals and trumpet, ‘Rolling’ Dan Whisker on rhythm guitar, and virtuosos Silas Wood on bass and Gary Williams on lead guitar, as well as a rotating cast of drum- mers, saxophonists, flautists, clarinetists, percussionists and guest vocalists.
They soon developed an intensive gigging schedule, often playing several times a week both in Birmingham venues and further afield, at festivals from Morecambe seafront to deepest Devon and events from Birmingham Artsfest to ‘Stop The War’ Fundraisers This old-style showbusiness work ethic enabled them to refine their playing while developing the dogged professionalism and peerless stagecraft for which they became renowned on the Birmingham scene.
Their sound has always been eclectic: they are habitually characterized as
‘country funk with a dub-pop edge’.
Their first two ep’s ‘Life, the Universe and Mint Dip’ and ‘So Long. . . and thanks for all the drummers’ (recorded at
Thought Gang studios) and the ‘Dope-llama’ side-project showcase their mastery of a wide range of styles from dub and ska, through funk, blues, rock & roll, thrash, hip-hop, soul, folk and country as well as their dedication to the craft of the classic pop-song.
With the 2006 departure of founder member Silas Wood, and the arrival of
Trevor ‘The Trevinator’ Lawlor on bass and boy-wonder Owen, ‘The OC’ Churchill on drums, they resolved to focus their scattershot creativity, resulting in the new self-produced EP ‘Where The Horizon Meets The Track’, 35 minutes of seamlessly blended folk, rock and country featuring timeless songwriting and exuberant musical landscapes.
Katlama will tour Britain in August 2007, visiting Leeds, Chorley, Liverpool, Birmingham, London, Brighton and Bristol. Check their websites for more information, free downloads, pictures, wise bloggings and contact details. They are available for private bookings, support slots,
emergency stand-in work and worldwide charity telethons.

Hi there Katlama, its so very nice to meet your acquaitance, and thanking you muchly for being my (our) friend.
I hope you enjoyed our tunes - I thought you might do judging by the stuff you seem to be into like - if you fancy a couple of our mp3s for you ipod/nonbrandedmp3 player then just ping me your email address back for our mailing list (info about gigs and the like) OR just click here on these here words and I'll sort that out for you, probably in the next couple of days, quite busy.
Forgive the indulgence but I've just worked out how to do this so i'm gonna put it in here - its a video of us playing one of the songs we would send to you live @ Bull and Gate last month just to show you what it may be like, hope thats ok :)
Our next gig isnt for a while but will probably be at Metro on Tottenhem Court Road - (so not really that close to you if I'm being honest ha ha :), but who knows - you may be on holiday, or finding out what its like to visit somewhere with 10 million people in about a square mile :)
Helloo fellow Brummies! Hope all's well here? We're now back in business with a spanking new venue for Brum. Please check out our blogs for info and gig dates now available! Take it easy.
