BIOGRAPHY 'Kid Blue gives the crowd exactly what is needed to satiate their expectation of the night'
DJ Magazine
DJ, producer and club promoter… it’s not a combination that many can pull of with ease, but Kid Blue has done just that and been at the cutting edge of the UK club scene for nearly eight years.
He first came to attention as promoter and resident DJ at the legendary Technique night in Leeds, which spearheaded a new, open-minded approach to dance music, mixing genres and DJs together in a way few had before. Kid Blue was at the forefront of this, not only programming the night but mixing up house, breaks, techno and electro to a fiercely loyal and up for it crowd and playing alongside legendary names including Richie Hawtin, Derrick May, Adam Freeland, Luke Vibert, DJ Rolando, Miss Kittin, David Holmes, Plaid and Meat Katie.
Moving to London in 2006 he soon gained a residency at Chew The Fat! at The End, rocking the main room every month until the last ever Fat! party before the legendary venue closed. 2006 also saw the release of his first single ‘Nothing To Lose’, picking up support from Laurent Garnier, James Zabiela, Pete Tong, Annie Nightingale and many more DJs from across the dance music spectrum, in the process marking his arrival as a highly talented producer.
As one of the leading resident DJs in the country, it was also no surprise that Kid Blue soon found himself in demand both up and down the UK and internationally. Guest sets across Europe, the US, Middle East and even as far as Malawi kept him busy in 2007, and in summer 2008 he was resident at We Love… the infamous Sunday parties at Space in Ibiza.
With the end of Fat! at The End, the time was right to move on, and so the start of 2009 saw Kid Blue found promotions company Dimebox, establishing his own London-based night in conjunction with Meat Katie’s Lot49 records called, simply, Lot49. Showcasing the deep, underground tech-funk sounds that are synonymous with his DJ sets, the first events have been road-blocks – ‘without doubt one of the best new additions to London clubbing’ (Spoonfed).
On the back of ‘Indian Queens’, his 2008 collaboration with Meat Katie for Lot49, he is now working on the first of a series of EPs for the label due for, and with a slew of remixes for Merka, Calvertron, Timo Garcia, Jeroen Van Anken, Brian Thomas and Zombie Outbreak released so far in 2009, there’s plenty more to come from this kid.
