Kika was born in Benguela, Angola on 2 June 1973. Created in the heart of a family full of musical traditions her father and grandfather belonged to the band "The Lovers", which was great success in the club scene. It was at nine months of age when her family came to live in Portugal, due to the Angolan political tension and conflicts. Kika started professionally singing early on, in bar..s in the Algarve, where she lived. She also took her university course in dentistry for three yars. In Lisbon, she was invited to join "Blackout", where she became the writer and main singer. During her time in the band, Kika worked on music projects for the Portuguese music scene and for ones abroad too. 1992: She sung a track " Free your mind" written by Tó Ricciardi, and was included on Dance Music compilation for Eurpopean and State Side distribution. In the same year, she was invited by Carlos Martins to sing alongside Filipa Pais for the sound track to the film "PAX". 1993: Kika goes to live in Leicester, England, where she works with musicians and sound engineers on " Southfields Music Project". 1994: She participates in the project M.D.A. 1995: Kika moves to London, where the first recording of the Album for Blackout takes place. It is produced by Ernie McKone, the base guitarist of the acid jazz group, Galliano. Other members of the band were also involved; Vallerie: Voice Crispin: Percussion Nick: Drums There were other international musicians that recorded on the album: Micke Mcvoy: Soul to Soul Jacko: Paul Weller Vivienne Mekone Tony Loby: The Specials Tony Robinson: House Martins Andy Price and Eddir Dublin: Sun Of Arden: Carleen Anderson Neil County amoungst others. Kika returns to Portugal, and the album is already well known as it is played on the national radio stations. The chorus, sung by Kika, is received well during the summer months, enough to generate a large public interest. 1996: Kika becomes well known for her live performances, her presence and her voice are both distinct. She is nominated along with other Portuguese singers (Teresa Salgueiro, Dulce Pontes, Maria João and Viviene) for female singer of the year, for the 2nd Edtion of the Blitz Awards. 1997: Kika records a live album for "Santos e Pecadores" ( Saints and Sinners), where she sung a duet with Olavo Bilac " Quando se perde alguém" ( When you lose somebody). Marta Dias and Paulo Gonzo were invited to sing for the recording. In the same year, she sung a duet with Sam, from the youth seris "Riscos" ( Risks), and she also starred as an actress, next to well established Portuguese actors. In March of the same year, Kika recieves an invitation for Expo 98, to participate in "As Voices" (the voices), and independent from the latest project (Blackout) she is invited to perform in a concert with other Portuguese musicians. It is in this height that Kika begins to work with music that is unpublished , joining with some of the artists that performed along side her at the concert mentioned before. She started to form her solo career, as vocalist,song writer and composer with Miguel Guia (Ex DR SAX) and Hugo Novo. She begins to work on compositions based on what is known as black music, but this time with added soulful rhythms. 1998: Kika goes back to London for the second recording of the album for Blackout. After this recording, she leaves the group, due to incompatabilty of projects, and musical differences. She maintains that she will get know her work better, and understand what are her preferances and tastes. On the 9 of September, with a band composed of 17 different instruments, and after intense compositions, arrangements and practise under the musical direction of herself, Miguel Guia and Hugo Novo , Kika performs solo for Expo 98. This performnce gives the public taste of what her solo album will entail. This was huge performance, that involved thousands of spectators. The music had a mixture of soul sounds , R&B flavours and melodies accompanied by some hard hitting messages. What Kika can deliver for her fans, is without doubt a more mature album of unquestionable talent. 2000-Ouro Azul Kika Santos emerged on the portuguese music scene as the singer for "Blackout" demonstrating extraordinary vocal capacity in varying styles from Hip Hop to R&B and Soul... Kika returned in the beginning of May with her astonishing solo debut album entitled "Ouro Azul" "Ouro Azul" was produced by Jeff Taylor, a renowned producer in the american music industry, who has worked with Michael and Janet Jackson, Sounds of Blackness, Boyz 2 Men, Barry White, Patti Labelle and Lionel Richie amongst many others. Kika recorded "Ouro Azul" in Madjef Studio Inc. Minneapolis, United States, which involved many musicians, such as Tommy Barbarella ,Levi Seacer ,Michael Scott (Prince..s Musicians) and Miguel Guia (Ex Dr. Sax) and Hugo Novo. "Ouro Azul" is made up of 15 songs, which seduces the ear with Soul and R&B atmospheres of great quality, where her delicious voice interprets: "Pick Up Kika Interlude", " Do You Want Me", "Memórias (de um sonho...)", "Ouro Azul", "Go One And Go", "Strictly", "Picking Daisies", "Spliff", "Loves in Need Of Love" ( Stevie Wonder), "Fina Flor", "Soul Mayor", "Tempo Veloz", "9 Times Out Of 10", "Groove" and “Thank You Interlude". As happened in "Blackout" Kika reaffirms herself as a composer as well as interpreter sharing the credits of her debut solo album with Jeff Taylor, Miguel Guia, Hugo Novo amongst others. After the start of her solo career, Kika began to explore the more jazzy side of Soul (Loopless), with an acoustic approach reaching new audiences and stages, with prospects of an international market. 2002- Was a year of achievement Sang on Shelter Av.'s track "Watergate" included on Nylon's compilation album "Showcase No. 2" Received an invitation from Luis Leite and Alex Santos to add her voice to their track "Light up my Cigarett" Participated in "Spaceboys" debut album, singing "In and outter Space" Still in 2002, started recording a album for the independent record label Nylon/Off The Record with her new project, "Loopless" 2003- The release of Loopless' debut album, Kika's 4th record release. Between stages and studios, Kika has taught singing in a private music school. 2004/2006-- Besides the music, and besides several other related activities, she works in audio-visual production at the renowned advertising agency "A Brandia (Basement)" 2006/2008-- Continues to work in advertising and production in several companies such as Estúdio Som de Lisboa, Addvoices, and Ivity Brand Corp. In addition, Kika participates in several projects with performing and recording artists such as: Sr alfaiate; Composto de Mudança; Tora Tora big Band e Mind da Gap. Presently, Kika is in de middle of recording Loopless second album. Along with this, Kika is wrapping the work on her first collection of Acrylic paintings. The collection is named "Art Beats from the Heart" ..
