KING LY CHEE BRAND NEW ALBUM COMING SOON!!! !!! Start Code To Apply Top Banner !!!!
Custom top banner code by Eileen!!! End Code To Apply Top Banner !!!
King Ly Chee was put together in May of 1999 and the full story and details of the inception can be read in the various interviews we've put up on our site. One in particular would be the Fracture interview we did a few years ago...If anyone is familiar with modern-day Asian culture - you will know just how complex the circumstances are in our cities around Asia. Its hard to make sense of introducing an entire music-culture to a population whose main language is not English and therefore things need to be translated, written or sung in the most accessible language. For Korea - things need to be in Korean, in Taiwan - things need to be in Mandarin, for Hong Kong - things need to be in Cantonese.
In general we focus on creating music heavily centered on social issues that may or may not be unique to our city (depending, of course, on the topic of the song). We have always been fans of message-oriented hardcore and less interested in the make-up, hair dye, mascara, rocking out to poetic gibberish "hardcore".
November 2000, we released our first album named "We Are Who We Are". In August 2002, we signed with a brand new local Hong Kong independent label called Polar Bear Production and released our second record "Stand Strong" in December of 2003. In January 2006, King Ly Chee independently released a split CD entitled Under One Flag with a European political punk band called Good Reason and followed the release up with a tour of Eastern Europe. In June of 2006 King Ly Chee got together with a bunch of other local Hong Kong bands and started a brand new record label called Start From Scratch Records! To find out more about this exciting new endeavor check out: www.startfromscratchrecords.com.hk and www.myspace.com/startfromscratchrecords
In the last 10 years momentous events to take place in King Ly Chee’s has been: touring Asia with NOFX 2007 (Riz can be found in scenes on NOFX's recently released DVD "Backstage Pass"), performing in front of 32,000 people in Manila (Philippines) at Summer Slam, performing with their hardcore heroes in bands like Terror and Comeback Kid, having worked with one of their local Hong Kong rock heroes Paul Wong (who released their second album – Stand Strong), touring China in 2000, touring Taiwan several times from 2000 to 2004, touring Southeast Asia in 2004, touring Korea in 2005, touring Eastern Europe in 2006…the list goes on and on.
On January 30, 2008 we released our highly anticipated new EP called Unite Asia. This EP was brought to you by our fellow Asian brothers and sisters at the following labels: Townhall Records, Dyslexia Records, One Voice Records, Unityhxc, Fast Youth Records, Start From Scratch Records, Take 4 Collective, and Painkiller Magazine. It is a totally FREE download EP and is available on our website: www.kinglychee.com
King Ly Chee is in the midst of recording their third, and eagerly awaited, album. The recording is being done by their very own guitar player Brian and is set to be released early 2010. Prior to this release King Ly Chee is doing a 10-date tour of China from Dec 25 to Jan 3 playing 9 shows! They will also be flying to Cebu, Philippines to play a show mid-January 2010.
It means a lot to us when people outside of Hong Kong are into checking us out...especially fellow hardcore bands - it proves to us that hardcore is TRULY a global community, and not just based on USA.
Thank you so much for your time and interest in Asian hardcore...
