Yonatan Bar Rashi - drums, percussion, vocals
Born and raised in New York City, Yonatan began playing from youth with
bands in NYC, performing Latin, Funk, Jazz, Rock 'n Roll and Blues. Recorded
album in 1976 with members of "The Tokens", singing and playing
congas. Toured U.S. with them and appeared on nationwide TV. Performed years in the "Deep South" (Florida, Georgia) as he attended college in north Florida. Performed for years in the Caribbean and later in several Saint Lucia Jazz Festivals, with Caribbean Jazz greats Luther Francois,
Emerson Nurse, Clive Alexander ("Zanda") and more. Performed with many Israeli artists, including Avishai Cohen, Yair Dallal, Eyal Sela, Meir
Israel, Shmulik Kraus and more. Yonatan is proud to be working with stellar,
world-class musicians in his "Kostiza Band".
Rony Kotliar - guitar
Born in 1979, Haifa, Israel, Rony started to play the guitar at the age
of 12, after hearing Jimi Hendrix enchanting and electrifying the crowds
using his special effects and sounds produced by an electric guitar. Later
he was influenced mainly by Blues musicians such as Stevie Ray Vaughn,
Albert King and bands such as Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin. Rony started
to perform at the age of 17 at pubs in the bay area of Haifa and developed
a particular affinity for Blues phrases, not to mention Rock & Roll
and Country.After serving his three years in the Israeli Army Band, Rony
began his musical studies in Haifa University's Musical Academy, specializing
in Middle-Eastern music. Today Rony is a member of the Kostiza Band, and
has his own band- Rony's Blues Band.
Ethan Nechin &8211; bass
Ethan Nechin, 24, a son of a stained glass artist, was born & raised
in Ein Hod artist village. Ethan began playing bass at the age of thirteen
and in his teens he was a member of numerous Rock bands. In school he
participated in Jazz ensembles and graduated in the music program. In
recent years Ethan has been a member of a Dub band who toured Israel with
English Dub artist Tenastelin. Ethan has been performing all over Israel
& while living in New York playing with Rock & Reggae bands. Ethan
was accepted to the music program at the New School University in New York.
Since coming back from New York, Ethan has been playing Jazz, Funk, and
Rock & Soul with the Kostiza band.
Lior Paz - tenor saxophone
Lior started to play the saxophone at the age of 13, after playing the
recorder for 4 years. At the age of 15 he and his family moved for 2 years
to St. Louis, MO, USA. There he played Alto Saxophone at his High School's
Big Band, quickly earning his position as frist alto Sax player. After his
return to Israel and 3 years of service in the Israeli Army, Lior started
to perform in numerous Jazz Blues and Funk groups, playing in the pubs
and clubs in northern Israel and teaching saxophone. At 2003 he started
the Kostiza band with his colleague Yonatan Bar Rashi.
Roy Spungin, Ph.D. - blues harp
Dr. Spungin has been playing Blues harp since 1975 when he met guitarist
Brian Garrow, a member of the Mohawk Indian Tribe in upstate New York.
After jamming with Brian to the likes of "Stormy Monday" in
the echoing hallways of the basement of their dormitory, 'Doc' Roy spent
the next twenty-five years in the New York City music scene wandering
from jam to jam in some of Greenwich Village's finest music venues. Since
immigrating to Israel in 2003, Doc Spungin found his musical niche with
the Kostiza Band and performs Blues, Rock 'n Roll, Motown, and Jazz on
a weekly basis in the northern city of Haifa.
