Influences
Apart from the obvious bands we sound like, we love (not all of us at once):
The Clientele, Nancy & Lee, The Embassy, El Perro del Mar, The Chills, Au Pairs, Kim Wilde, PIL, Frankie Vaughn, Lord Creator, Eugene Kelly, Red House Painters, Yo La Tengo, The Pastels, The Cure, Liverpool Football Club, Dr Alimantado, 5th Dimension, TVP's, Ulrich Schnauss, Broken Social Scene, Duran Duran, Nosferatu, Rolling Stones, Arab Strap, Christian Death, Tappa Zukie, Felix da Housecat, Ian Brown, Jesus & Mary Chain, Felt, Afghan Whigs, Johnny Boy, Kitchens of Distinction, Slowdive, Donna Regina, Spacemen 3, Aberfeldy, Magnetic Fields, London after Midnight, Torgas Valley Reds, Vitalic, Pixies, Static, Pale Saints, Viva Stereo, Motley Crue, Sisters of Mercy, George Michael, A-ha, Left Banke, Kings of Convenience (especially "Brian"), Static, Komeit, Go-Betweens, Cluster, Malcolm Middleton, Jens Lekman, George Jones, Hank Williams, ABBA, Serge Gainsbourg, Stars, Saturday Looks Good To Me, ad nausea . . .
Sounds Like
Heavenly, The Smiths, Shop Assistants, Even As We Speak, Free Loan Investments, Darling Buds, The Field Mice, Comet Gain, Camera Obscura, The Cure, Early Primal Scream, C86, Sarah Records, Trembling Blue Stars, Softies, Dressy Bessy, Belle & Sebastian, Freewest, Saturday Looks Good To Me, Happy Couple, Pipas . . . basically if your dad heard you playing our records he'd throw you out of the house. Luckily, we all moved out years ago . . . (if you don't count Marc)
Marc McCourt (guitars) & Colm McCrory (bass) played together as Language of Flowers years ago and weren't very good so gave up. They resurrected the band in 2003, bringing on board Tara Simpson (vocals), Bentley Cooke (drums) & Ashton Cameron (guitar).
Since then they signed to Shelteredlife Records in San Francisco & released their debut album, 'Songs About You' in October 2004.
"Songs About You is a glorious dedication at the altar of Pop, is an album utterly in thrall to the very essence of what it means to be young (at heart) and tripping over yourself as you rush headlong into the wall of sounds that mean the world." - Tangents
"Hard to think that someone who loves classic indie pop wouldn't love this" - One Chord
"Each listening is a little bit better than the previous one (but only a little, so that you can play it again and again)" - Friends of the Heroes
"One thing you ought to pay heed to is the decidedly outstanding album of the year (2005) especially if you are into the British tradition of classic indiepop. If you are one of those nostalgic anoraks who stubbornly clutch your priceless seven-inches from Sarah, muttering that never again will there be such Perfect Bands, you should think again. So if this record is not already in your possession, it deserves its own pedestal in your home. Listen to it and marvel at the fact that the world, however horrid, can still turn out these little masterpieces." - Le Manchester
The Language of Flowers played their last ever gig in Lund, Sweden, in September 2007. It was great!
Marc is now playing guitar & singing for Solemn Novena, Tara is back in Belfast making babies, Colm & Ben are now finally getting their 'Help stamp out loneliness' project off the ground in Manchester & Ashton changed his name to DC & is working on Marxist pamphlets.
Robert is a proud father, Gav still in Camera Obscura, Casso in Belfast & Dr Neeson is missing in action.

"Mon jardin préféré Est celui de mon ami. Sur un banc de bois Je m’installe doucement Pour l’attendre.
Je regarde la neige gelant sur les fleurs Le plus grand arbre du jardin perd sa dernière feuille. Cette feuille s’envole au milieu des nuages Puis retombe en silence sur la rivière glacée. J’attends mon ami sans me lasser.
