[The Fish] is a source you can trust for exposure to visionary work, people of character, and a consistently dynamic environment. [le] poisson rouge strives to be more than the sum of it's parts, more than the events themselves. At our place, you'll never be given the boot after a show; we stay open. If you don't have a ticket (for shows) or cover (for cabaret nights) the bar is always open and it belongs to you. You will hear and see shit you've never heard, meet curious people with bold ideas, people on the cusp (the next...?) and immerse yourself in a nightlife of true substance and vitality. Revive the symbiotic relationship between art and revelry; bring open mind and drinking shoes.
We are musicians and our sensitivity to acoustics is as meticulous as the artists'. Our venue is acoustically engineered to perfection, no squeaky trebles, oppressive bass or skewed balance. Music will be heard the way the musicians intend; no more, no less.
We're not afraid to book what we believe in. Whether it sells 80 tickets or 800, quality and aesthetic are our priority. The space can and will be configured differently from one night to the next, to create and preserve an environment appropriate for each event.
Regular guests and members are our VIPs: honoring loyalty, merit and creative curiosity.
Together we have an opportunity to become a creative asylum for artists and artistic movements. A place artists yearn to play. We can present artists as you've never seen them: intimate, vulnerable, playing shit they won't play elsewhere, collaborating with people they don't elsewhere. We want our artists to play what inspires them most. We want them to take risks, challenging them to challenge you.
About me: (Le) Poisson Rouge is a multimedia art cabaret founded by musicians on the site of the historic Village Gate. Dedicated to the fusion of popular and art cultures in music, film, theater, dance, and fine art, the venue's mission is to revive the symbiotic relationship between art and revelry; to establish a creative asylum for both artists and audiences.
