El festival LORCA ROCK 2009, ya en su duodécima edición, se celebrará el viernes 24 y sábado 25 de julio en el Recinto Ferial Huerto de la Rueda en la localidad de Lorca (Murcia, España).
Para el cartel de este año contamos con grandes artistas internacionales de la talla de Carcass, Arch Enemy, Meshuggah o incluso Dark Funeral.

While fully aware of the extreme boldness of the statement considering the competition from Germany’s ‘Wacken Open Air’, Norway’s ‘Hole in the sky’ or even Spain’s ‘Metalway’, this year’s Lorca Rock festival is a very strong contender to become the loudest, noisiest and most brutal metal event on the continent in 2009.
Now in its 12th edition, the Lorca Rock every year attracts hundreds of metalheads from all over the country to the small, quiet and extremely hot Murcia town to enjoy a loaded shot of metal straight to the brain with some of the top international and national acts gracing the style’s various genres.
Iron Maiden, Slayer, Manowar, Marilyn Manson, The Scorpions, Europe, Suicidal Tendencies and even Finnish Eurovision Song Contest winners Lordi, among a legion of others, have all at some moment in time ripped it up on the Lorca stage.
This year, however, really takes the proverbial biscuit. One wonders what exactly went through the minds of the organisers when composing the line-up - featuring an unprecedented number of British and Swedish bands - apart from the total and utter sonic annihilation of everyone present. It speaks volumes for the intensity of the music on display when the ‘softest’ bands on the bill are Brazilian thrash metal legends Sepultura or old-school New York hardcore troopers Biohazard. It only goes up from there.
This year’s Lorca Rock focuses almost exclusively on thrash, death and black metal, with the oddball exceptions of Swedish brutal progressive nutters Meshuggah and folk metallers Tyr from the Faroe Islands (!). Resurrected British death metal pioneers Carcass, on-a-roll US ‘party thrash’ bangers Municipal Waste on one of their rare visits to the country, big-name and also reunited Dutch progressive death act Pestilence, Canadian technical thrash stalwarts Voivod or modern-day melodic death heroes Arch Enemy - also from Sweden - are lining up to make the darkest dreams of the masses of long-haired decibel fanatics come true this summer. Add stripped-down, nail-through-the-head US death metal originals Obituary, young Huddersfield thrash hopefuls Evile and hypnotic progressive UK death/black Satanists Akercocke and you’re pretty much there.
However, a separate paragraph must be devoted to this year’s historic black metal contingent. The presence of Sweden’s two main ambassadors for the cause, namely Dark Funeral and Marduk, promises to have the country’s entire swarm of corpse-painted, leather-cloaked and spiked demons salivating at the corner of their blood-stained mouths, and will undoubtedly draw many up from the underworld and into Murcia to witness the unholy fire-and-brimstone ceremony offered by two bands that very seldom visit the country - let alone on the same bill.
How can you possibly miss it? One word of advice though: be sure to include an industrial-strength neck brace among your sleeping bag, beer and black t-shirts…
