Lysa Flores, a first generation Mexican-American, has been a pioneer in the “EastLos” alternative scene since her teens and was named by Newsweek as one of
“20 young Latinos to watch in the new millennium”. A woman of many talents, Flores is a singer songwriter, activist, actress, producer and started her own label BRINGYOURLOVE records in 1998.
Refusing to be categorized by society's stifling labels, she moves easily through musical genres and art forms with a unique style. She has toured extensively both the US and Europe and has recorded and collaborated with such luminaries as indie-rock legend Jonathan Richman, Tex-Mex superstar Flaco Jimenez, John Doe, Peter Case, David Hidalgo(Los Lobos), guitarist Bill Frisell, and drummer D.J. Bonebrake (X, the Knitters).
For her starring role in the critically acclaimed film Star Maps (Fox Searchilight), Flores earned a “Best Debut Performance” nomination from the Independent Spirit Awards. Flores also served as the films Musical Director (which was the first feature film highlighting a track by folk cult-hero Nick Drake)and produced the ground breaking soundtrack (Geffen records)along side oscar winner Gustavo Santaollaya (Brokeback Mountain).
Additionally, Lysa was the lead-guitar player in seminal L.A. punk-pioneer Alice Bag's all-female group, Stay at Home Bomb, as well as having toured the globe as a vocalist for performance-artist El Vez. In 2008,Lysa's trio (featuring Marco Renteria from the Jaguares and Alfredo Ortiz from the Beastie Boys) brought live music to Chicano-alt bar EastSideLuv in East LA's Boyle Heights' district and began a weekly Friday-night residency to standing-room only crowds.
Lysa Flores returns with her third solo release Bring Your Love (2009)featuring a duet with her child hood idol , John Doe of X.
