Mach One began as a band of high school kids, with the two main members, and brothers, ..Tim and Geoff Sprackling .. joining forces with ..Simon Strevens and Peter Matuchniak.. from progressive outfit ..Janysium... .. .. Following a number of gigs at their local schools in West London, and a few early demos, the four members decided to take things up a notch when they were invited to record a more professional demo with a view to releasing an album to be distributed worldwide via Pinnacle Records. .. .. ..Keith Goodwin.. (press agent for Yes, Black Sabbath, Marillion) successfully arranged for the audition and managed to secure a number of press articles in top UK music papers and magazines (Melody Maker, Sounds, Kerrang), resulting in interest in the main music industry papers. .... Mach One brought in ..Steve Fisher and Jon Bankes.. to round off their ranks and began touring clubs and universities around London and England following a series of recordings various London studios... .... Sales for their early demo cassette tape had originated from around the globe and it seemed that their debut album would continue to expose their music to an even wider audience. However, early financial difficulties strained the relationship amongst the six members and they took time out to review the situation. .... Oddly enough it was at this time a lucky break occurred with an offer to play at the famous Marquee Club in London. Peter, Tim and Geoff came together as a smaller version of the band, for what was to be their last gig. However, the trio wrote and recorded a whole new album's worth of material, mostly instrumental, while on a 3-week stint in Sweden that was to accompany a book titled "Could This Have Been Our Prehistory". .... Time will tell if this last recording will ever see the light of day, but their debut album has been re-released on CD as "An Ancient Lie" with some bonus demo (i.e. live rehearsals) thrown in. .. -
