Influences
Our roots are set in metal, but as you'll hear, there's room for a lot of other types of music in Madder Mortem as well. Basically, our influences are music of all kinds of genres and styles more than three-four artist in particulare.
We listen to everything we stumble across that we think of as great music, whatever style it may be and that makes for a varied and broad spectre of inspirations.
In addition to that - our personal lives, everyday obstacles and other rarities life brings are always an influence.
Sounds Like
A rollercoasting multitude of Metal and massive music that are
highly dynamic, emotional and honest. Also heavily groovy and gloomy, with a constant focus on writing great songs.
Our only rule to creating music is that there are no rules.
Madder Mortem was formed in 1993 as Mystery Tribe, hailing from the eastern part of Norway.
The name was changed to Madder Mortem, and in January 1997, the demo MCD "Misty Sleep" was recorded.
Misanthropy records signed Madder Mortem after hearing "Misty Sleep" and "Mercury" was released in 1999.
After some line-up changes, Century Media records got in touch, asking for new material. A new demo persuing a heavier direction was recorded, a deal was made, and "All Flesh Is Grass" was released in february 2001. In September/October 2001, Madder Mortem
supported Tristania, Rotting Christ and Vintersorg on a 23-date European tour.
Returning back home, the Madders started writing again. Studio Underground was re-invaded in
May 2002, and "Deadlands" was born. Darker and groovier than its' predecessor, but also shows
even more sides to the Madder face. "Deadlands" was released on CM the 21st October 2002 in Europe, and on the 11th of February 2003 on The End Records in the US.
In February and March 2003 Madder Mortem supported Opeth on the European leg of their
"Deliverance" tour after being hand-picked by the band. In addition to taking us all over
Western Europe, the Opeth tour also saw us entering the UK shores for the first time. Next up was the Inferno festival, Southern Discomfort, more
gigs in Norway and a surreal trip for a one-off gig in Mexico City.
Not long
after this trip a new line-up change took place, and the Madders entered Space Valley Studio(Norway) to record their fourth full-length in april 2004.
"Desiderata" was mixed in Studio Fredman(Sweden) august the same year and mastered in september. After doing gigs for a while, amongst others the Inferno London-festival, and Norway's biggest festival, Quart, Madder Mortem split with Century Media and signed with legendary Peaceville records in July 2005. Cover art-duties were once again being handled by graphic genious, Christian Ruud, and "Desiderata" is now out there for you to hear!

INTERGALLACTIC PROTEST LAUNCHED BY THE ROBOTS FROM MARS!
The Robots From Mars have launched a protest with the Beetlejuice Gaming Commission. The major issue focuses on the disadvantage that metallic robots have when playing Pong since most robots tend to light up when struck by the game ball. “But that all depends on the size of the game ball verses the size of the robot,” the Great Butbot advised, “there’s a proper ratio with these things.” Johnny Air-Guitar, “Getting struck by a ball of light is a real and constant danger…if I light up I’ll give my position away.” Rob “Rainbow” Marley, “I light up if I’m within six feet of a Pong match. I think it is a radiation thing.” “You’d light up anyway,” Johnny Air-Guitar added. “You’re always smoking.” This reporter noted that most of the beings attending the protest in the office of the Beetlejuice Gaming Commission took some of these comments by the Robots From Mars as a joke. But I’m not convinced. I never met a synthetic that had a sense of humor.
ZZ Van Hendrix, “Bowling is even worse than Pong. What robotic ten pin wants to stand around with 9 of his buddies just to get knocked down so that he has to continually pick himself back up again? It’s a senseless stupid ritual! And who gains…some fat old hippie in a tie-dyed T-shirt? Bowling and Pong are both barbaric. They should be outlawed!”
