Like the town of Athens, Mama’s Love is youthful and overflowing with talent. All five band members are originally from Atlanta, Ga., where they studied music in high school and played in various high school bands. The current line-up came together in Athens in 2006 under the name Funkward Bound, with Ben and William making trips from Auburn, Ala., to Athens to practice and play. In 2007, all members converged permanently on Athens to concentrate on making music as Mama’s Love.
The result has been a full length album entitled Willow Street Sessions, many hours committed to song-writing and practicing, dozens of concerts, and a fast-growing, loyal fan base. Willow Street Sessions was recorded at Starratt Studios in Watkinsville, Ga. during May 2007. It took two weeks in the studio to nail down 12 original tunes, and the feedback from the album has been overwhelmingly positive. With a well rehearsed and growing arsenal of originals and classic-rock cover songs, Mama’s Love is poised to become a crowd favorite in Athens and beyond.
