ROBOTPIGEON.COM:
"STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND LISTEN TO A BRILLIANT POP SINGLE.
By pop, we don't mean that 'Some Girls / Some Boys' by Manna is anything like The Saturdays or Tinchy Stryder, it's more like The Kills or Ladyhawke. She's from Finland, so we'll call her 'the Finnish Ladyhawke' and see if it sticks.
Her single (and only song on her MySpace) is a completely and utterly brilliant, life-affirming piece of pop amazingness which is as equally influenced by The Rolling Stones as it is Madonna. It's as rock and roll as it is pop as it is danceable. There are ten million different things going on between the beginning and the 3.39 close but most notable of all are a fan-bloody-tastic tune and the several hundred hooks throughout the song.
'Some Girls / Some Boys' is totally incredible and possibly one of our favourite songs of summer 2009. It's released in Finland in August. Hopefully picked up by a clever record label in the UK at a later date"
Manna,
a singer/songwriter born in Paris to a Finnish mother and an Algerian father, spent most of her childhood travelling between France, Algeria and Finland. Now based in Helsinki Finland, Manna is working on her sophomore album ( out fall 2009) . She is in the process of creating her own sound that mixes her love of singing, raw guitar sounds and melodies. In her own words: " I am not interested in creating anything except heartfelt music, it can be either beautiful or just plain aggressive - often both. I grew up listening as much folk and blues music than I loved the early New York punk scene bands. Anyway, there should be no rules when it comes to making music, it's when you let go of them and follow your intuition that it starts getting interesting. Sound is god and I love music.
