Don’t you think these guys need a name? Martin Devaney (guitar, vocals, harmonica), Jake Hyer (violin, vocals), Peter Leggett (drums), Sean McPherson (bass), Josh Peterson (lead guitar)
Influences
My friends, drinks, music nerd books, Raymond Carver, Bill Murray, baseball.
I was born in the city o' St. Paul, where I still reside as the unofficial Mayor. To date, I've released four full length albums and a early homemade ep back in 2001. I mostly play shows with my band, though occasionally do acoustic shows with Jake Hyer or by my lonesome. Over the years I've played shows and shared stages with numerous Minnesota bands and national acts that include: Dan Bern, Ike Reilly, Evan Dando, Damien Jurado, Wreckless Eric & Amy Rigby, Crooked Fingers, Andrew Bird, Mason Jennings, Rhett Miller, Mike Doughty, Mary Lou Lord, The Roots, Billy Bragg, Semisonic, The Jayhawks, Soul Asylum, Southern Culture on the Skids, Cary Hudson, Slim Dunlap, Robbie Fulks and more. My other band is the rock outfit Crossing Guards. I also have played saxophone in Heiruspecs, Mike Gunther and His Restless Souls, and The Pogue Brady Rock Band. We'll be starting on a new Devaney Band record soon for Eclectone Records, the label I founded in December 2002.

I just wanted to stop by to say hello and give you a little update on what Blood Root Mother is up to! We will be recording an EP of new music in August, and we recently finished recording a live DVD. The DVD is currently unreleased and I actually just saw it for the first time yesterday. It features the last two performances with Tony Ellis still alive, and some footage from the tribute show we played on the night of his funeral.
There are some cool covers, as well as some NEW music that will be on our upcoming EP. We're very excited about the new music and we'd like to share a sneak peak with you. Here's a video of a tune called Run Bobby Run:

Even though, I know I am usually really busy recording my next album and everything, no excuses. So yea i wanted to say wassup, i like visiting your and others page when i wanna read, listen to music n stuff. U got a cool spot, and i hope your year is shaping up better than last year. Our life is supposed to get greater and greater right? Well let me know how everything is going with your goals for this year! ttyl
We appreciate that you're doing your own thing and glad that you're our friend!
I wanted to share an insight that I had recently. Blood Root Mother really believe in the power of music. Genuine music transcends all limitations and boundaries, and happens when musicians and listeners are communicating with one another on the deepest level possible. In a society overcome by an obsession with flashy images and stale radio hits, we seek to do something that shakes the foundation of the status quo. Since the dawn of human civilization, music has been about sharing humanity and truly connecting with others. So stay connected with us, and join us on our journey.
Peace, Elliot
The artistic activity does not lie in art itself as such. It penetrates into a deeper world in which all art forms flow together, and in which the harmony of soul and cosmos in the nothing has its outcome in reality. -Bruce Lee
