Named after a child’s mispronunciation (or is that misconception) of music, Mewgatz make delicate yet damaging electronica. Based out of an abandoned electro graveyard in Bristol and armed with an arsenal of home-made instruments, from modified 80s Casios to keytars and kids toys, Mewgatz makes schizophrenic and chaotic yet beautifully subtle and fragile music.
The guerrilla art-form of circuit-bending involves taking an electronic noise making device and intentionally buggering about with its circuitry. Finding, and soldering in short-circuits which create new sounds that were never before thought possible or even desirable from the instrument.
With a background of training in traditional melody, Mewgatz was inspired by these unpredictable sounds and quickly started melding the harsh mechanical exteriors into weird and wonderful organic electronic monologues.
Paying homage to his fascination with original keyboard presets and demo songs, Mewgatz fuses glitching preset bossanova beats with delicate guitar chord progressions and tender untrained vocals. Schizophrenically remixing the likes of “Greensleves” and “Wake me up before you go go” until they’re bent out of all recognition into lo-fi electronic ballads drenched in raw, vulnerable emotion. A personal quest to find that fleeting moment where, in the void between human fragility and robotic malfunction, unpredictability and stability can collide.
"Tender mechanics and loft-space constellations...as unloved mini-robots put out tiny feelers into the cosmos, Mewgatz feeds them with crystallised quizzical melodies" - Plan B
Mewgatz has played with: Efterklang, Why?, Peter and the Wolf (USA), Richard James (Gorky's Zygotic Mynci), Eugene McGuiness, Lonely Ghosts, Foxes!, Trev McWilliam, My Device, and many more...

The songs on this EP were constructed around the brain of a £3 Yamaha keyboard and an 80's keytar. The ‘Underfelt’ EP has been generously described as "30 minutes of dark and harrowing basement pop" which pleases us greatly. Underfelt pays homage our my fascination with original keyboard presets and demo songs. The tracks fuse glitching preset bossanova beats with delicate guitar chord progressions and tender untrained vocals, schizophrenically remixing popular contemporary tracks until they’re bent out of all recognition. These are lo-fidelity electronic ballads drenched in raw, passionate, and vulnerable emotion. We hope you enjoy it. Message us if you do.
So it turns out, someone is actually crazy enough to let us play a gig! I know, we're not sure what they are thinking either, maybe they hate the people that come to their night? or maybe they can smell the future and it's wearing a lab coat and goggles... Friday 9th Oct Prince Albert we're on about 9pm - £4 in.
Hello, Winter records is launching a new theme-based compilation (vol 3) and invites you to a musical composition. The best tracks will be selected in order to be part of the new cd.
So, for our third compilation we want you to use the 5 musical notes of "Close encounters of the third kind". These are : sol (4) la (4) fa (4) fa (3) do (4).
Those notes can be the main theme of the track or not. We must here it once at least. You can whisper it, sing it, play it with any instrument you want. You can decline it.
