Nazareth born Michel Sajrawy can easily join the ranks of seminal jazz guitarists. The guitarist and composer completed his musical studies 1996 to 2000 at the London College of Music under the direction of renowned chamber music composer Adam Gorb. In his own Dasam Studio in Nazareth, he has developed a sound that confronts the listener with his special „Desert Blues“ – soulful, tricky jazz-rock lines and mysterious Arabic rhythms.
Debut album „Yathrib“ (2006 Ozella Music) marks Sajrawy’s entrance into the vanguard of crossover artists who see themselves creating an uncompromising jazz sound between traditional and contemporary. He has been touring the globe tirelessly with his band ever since.. In Germany he performed at the Leipzig Jazz Festival in 2006, a year later he jammed with Nigel Kennedy in Jerusalem, and in 2008 the New York jazz scene had the pleasure of experiencing his explosive guitar art. Besides numerous collaborations with colleagues like Abboud Abdel'All, accordeon player Manfred Leuchter or fellow countryman, oud virtuoso Samir Joubran. Sajrawy also works as a film composer.
His new album “Writings On The Wall” marks a strong turning towards filigree west-eastern acoustic jazz.
That sounds great! I know them both. Can you travel to Arab countries or will you be working with them in Jordan or Egypt? It would be nice if you could perform in Lebanon.
