MIKE FARLEY TO RELEASE MOMENTS & MEMORIES
Nashville Based Singer/Songwriter’s Acoustic Album First in Five Years
Nashville, TN— It’s been quite some time since singer/songwriter Mike Farley last graced his fans with an album’s worth of new material, but for those who’ve been waiting anxiously for a follow-up to 2002’s Blue, the hour is almost at hand. On October 16, 2007, Farley will release his fifth album, Moments and Memories, on RTT Records.
Moments and Memories is Farley’s first album since relocating from Cleveland, Ohio, down to Nashville, Tennessee, in 2003. “When I moved down here, I wanted to get into co-writing, and the whole songwriting community,” he reveals. “I did Writer’s Nights pretty regularly for a few years, met some people, and I did do some co-writing…but, then, that kind of fizzled out, too. But I still continued to write occasionally on my own.
“I was writing all along,” clarifies Farley, “but my P.R. firm (Michael J. Media Group) took off, so anything related to my own music career kind of got put on the back burner. Over the course of living here for four years, though, I came up with enough material for another album.”
It’s only fitting for an album entitled Moments and Memories, however, that some of the songs were actually written before the aforementioned move to Nashville; in particular, Farley was performing “Home for Good” with his band while he was still based in Cleveland. In another nod to the past, Farley has revisited “Say Goodbye,” which originally appeared on his second album, 1999’s On the Edge of Somewhere. “I wanted to pull something that I’d already released and do another version of it,” he says, “and that was always a fan favorite. I just wanted to do something older, to bring it back and give it a fresh sound.”
Perhaps appropriately, the record’s title cut was the track which made Farley realize that, yes, perhaps it was finally time to put out that long-delayed fifth album. “When I did ‘Moments and Memories,’ that put me over the edge,” he admits. “It turned out to be the last song I wrote for the record, but I think it has the most impact. I’ve got fans who have all my albums and have been bugging me for a long time to put out another record; after I wrote ‘Moments and Memories,’ though, I went through my catalog, and once I realized that had 20 to 25 songs to choose from, I figured it was definitely time.”
Although the change in locale hasn’t resulted in a dramatic change in sound, Farley admits that there’s definitely some twang on some of the new songs, particularly “Saturday Night Needs Sunday Morning,” a co-write with Aaron Brotherton. “Aaron’s immersed in that whole country publishing / writing community,” he explains, “so there’s at least a little bit of that country-rock edge. Co-writing always gives a song a different flavor, though, because you’re bringing in that other person’s influences.”
If there’s one thing Moments and Memories has done for Farley, it’s reinvigorated him as an artist. “Doing this album was a real creative release,” he says. “Now, I’ve got the itch to start writing again!”
Hey Mike, Hope you are doing great in Music Town USA. Have a photo of us at Cutting Edge panel a few years ago on my pics. Thanks for the add. Keep Lovin' The Music Business
So I found this notebook while cleaning out my attic. I apparently was writing a story about the Cleveland scene back in the day...lol I miss you all so much! We should keep in touch more!
Isn't irony ironic? Did you know Paul Sidoti is playing with Taylor Swift? I'm looking at their bassist, going, gawd that guy looks familier... it's Amos from Oval Opus. OK, he's not with Oval Opus anymore. Now, he's with this smokin hot 18 year old singer/songwriter, playing on Leno. But Hey, we all have tough choices to make... DUKKKKKE
Actually i haven't moved there yet. Will be in 3 weeks. i was told by a number of people to get in touch with you, a LONG time ago, and then just again recently.
and i said, oh my gosh! he is my myspace friend, i said hello to him before. Lol.
If you're not busy when i move down, i'd love to meet up and talk! that is, if you have free time. would be nice to know a face!
Hey Dady-o! Thanks for the weed wacker! It came in handy...and amusing watching Joe use it LOL..The count is on & we can't wait for Jr. to get here! YAY!
