Fronted by vocalist Samy Birnbach (aka DJ Morpheus, freestyle DJ extraordinaire and compiler of the Freezone series), Minimal Compact were one of the most inspirational bands of the '80s. They blended funky rock rhythms and incisive guitars with flavours from their native Middle East. The band were active from 1981 to 1988, and released 6 studio albums and a live album. They had a large and fanatic following all across Europe and the USA, where some of their tracks became underground club favourites.

Minimal Compact fut l'un des groupes cultes des annes 80. Leur chanteur
s'appelait Samy Birnbach (il se transformera dix ans plus tard en DJ Morpheus et deviendra un DJ clectique et archi-respect, notamment responsable de la srie Freezone). Ils mlaient rythmes rock funky et guitares incisives avec des tonalits manant de leur Moyen-Orient natal. Le groupe fut actif de 1981 1988, et publia 6 albums studio et un live. Ds la parution de son premier mini-album en 81, Minimal Compact capture l'imagination d'un public de fans toujours grandissant, en Europe d'abord, puis aux USA, o plusieurs titres deviennent des tubes underground dans les clubs o l'on danse au son du D.O.R. ('dance oriented rock').
Prs de vingt ans plus tard, l'histoire se rpte: des DJs en vue (tels que James Murphy/LCD Soundsystems, Playgroup, Ivan Smagghe etc.) s'extasient sur 'Next One Is Real', 'Statik Dancin' et autres classiques de Minimal Compact. 15 ans aprs la sparation du groupe, Minimal Compact se runit nouveau cet automne pour une srie de concerts avec les membres originaux: le chanteur lead Samy Birnbach (aka DJ Morpheus), les guitaristes/ chanteurs Berry Sakharof & Rami Fortis, la bassiste/ chanteuse Malka Spigel et le batteur Max Franken.
