   MonkeyWrench Books's Blurbs
About me:
MonkeyWrench Books is an all-volunteer, nonprofit, collectively owned and operated radical bookstore in North Austin. We provide an extensive collection of radical and hard to find literature and media, and a space for community events. In order to offer a real alternative to the homogeneity of corporate bookstores.

MonkeyWrench Books serves as a clearinghouse for information on Austin-area groups, projects, and events. In addition, the store offers a space for local organizing, and facilitates greater interaction among groups working for social change. It is a place where people newly interested in political action can find support, information, and a diversity of progressive viewpoints. It is also a place where experienced ativists and organizers can share their knowledge and find the resources needed to achieve their goals.

We are located at:
110 E. North Loop

Young Conservatives of Texas have invited Rush Limbaugh to Austin for their "Free Green Cards" rally.

Young Conservatives of Texas have invited Rush Limbaugh to Austin for their "Free Green Cards" rally. These idiots wil be protesting immigration policy. First they'll start be "tea-bagging Obama". They will have a large poster of Obama set up where people can throw tea bags at him. The second stage will involve passing out free sweet tea to anyone who would like some. They will have fliers folded up and attached to the cups via a rubber band as our form of marketing Young Conservatives of Texas. Last they'll build a replica of the U.S. Border. When people "cross the border" they'll get a "Free Green Card" and "Free Government Entitlements". The "Green Cards" will immigration statistics and facts about government entitlements. Event started around 11am on Tuesday and keep going until around 3pm, or until we run out of Tea.

2008 Speaking Tour

Self Determination and Community Rights Defense:
Neoliberalism, Militarism, and Some Challenges of Solidarity

Simón Sedillo, who has spent the last six years practicing and teaching community based video documentation in communities in resistance in the US and Mexico, is on a new speaking tour. Sedillo will share some experiences and perspectives on the local and global implications of the peoples’ struggle in Oaxaca. Through this multi-media workshop Sedillo helps open a powerful space for dialogue on the effects of neoliberalism and militarism on indigenous communities, immigrant communities, and poor people everywhere. Sedillo finally presents audiences with basic challenges to aid and charity based solidarity in communities who are struggling for self determination.

Republicans, Tear Gas, Grand Juries, and Your Rights When Dealing with All 3

Several Austin activists will talk about their experiences at the Republican National Convention in the Twin Cities and the resulting state repression and show a brief video of some of the protests. Also, a representative of Austin People’s Legal Collective will give a short training about Grand Juries and your legal rights when dealing with the feds.

Over two months after the conclusion of the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minnesota, the FBI continues to harass and intimidate activists who chose to voice their opinions about the status quo.

In the last month, six activists in Houston and Austin have received subpoenas to appear before a Federal Grand Jury in Minneapolis that has been scheduled for the week of November 17. Several other activists have had their homes, or those of parents and friends, visited by the FBI.

The subpoenas are only the latest step that the government has taken in its attempts to intimidate and silence activists protesting the RNC. Police actions in the Twin Cities have included house raids, pulling over and detaining activists at gunpoint, mass arrests, arbitrary searches, and vehicle impoundments.

For directions or info about the event, contact Monkey Wrench Books.
